Just used Samsung Pay!

I can't explain how it works but it does. It's a game changer. My day job is for a retail company that has over 1000 stores with a million dollar a week sales at each store... apple pay only works with nfc readers which these stores do not have. But samsung pay beta does work with all their readers. I've never seen apple so afraid that they are running so many commercials now...Google search loopay it's what's built in to the s6 phones and up. Even if samsung only makes less than apenny off each transaction it was a wise decision.

I guess I'm not understanding the advantage. Are you able to use it with a credit card machine that doesn't have NFC?

Yes as long as the machine has a magnetic strip where you can slide a card you should be able to use samsung pay. That is what separates it from other mobile payment systems that only use nfc.

Yes, and that's a huge advantage. Despite more and more merchants adding NFC terminals, the vast majority still only have magnetic stripe readers. With a payment service like Apple Pay, the terminal MUST support NFC, so you are pretty limited to a small subset of merchants. Samsung Pay works with NFC just like Apple Pay, but it ALSO works with nearly every standard magnetic stripe reader. And you don't have to do anything different - you just hold the phone close to the magnetic stripe reader and it works! And of course, it's secured by Samsung Knox and uses the same tokenized method that means your actual credit card information is not sent to the merchant.

As I outlined before, the biggest hurdle (even for Samsung Pay) is the merchants that don't have a POS terminal for the customer to actually use for payment. So places that take your credit card and pay for you (which unfortunately means most sit-down restaurants), you're still out of luck. The antiquated method of handing a cashier your credit card must die!

By the way, does anyone know if the upcoming Gear S2 smartwatch will have the MST (Magnetic Stripe Transmission) technology in it for Samsung Pay? I thought I read somewhere that the watch will just use NFC, which would be a bit disappointing since the phone has MST. I was leaning towards the Gear S2 over the competition (Moto 360 and Huawei Watch) mainly because it had Samsung Pay, but it means having to use my phone for the magnetic stripe payment method, then I don't see it as much of an advantage.

Hmm I know they'll work with Samsung pay but not sure about the mst. That's a good question.

Edit: here's from a CNET article it states it won't work with mst... :(

The Gear S2 will be compatible with Samsung Pay, which is Samsung's mobile payment platform. All the new Gear S2 watches will use NFC to deploy that mobile payment tech, though they won't have Samsung Pay's unique ability to work at any credit card terminal, either, as the magnetic loop (MST) function won't be included. Samsung Pay can be quickly triggered by tapping one of two buttons on the side of the Gear S2, the other of which summons the home screen.

I just downloaded samsung pay to my phone and tried adding my Chase debit card (with the new chip on it) and it's saying I'm unable to add the card. Any ideas? Could it be the new chip?

Are typical bank cards going to be compatible or does it have to be on that short list of participants?

Chase isn't part of the beta program. It's only open to Bank of America and US Bank cardholders.

More bank cards will likely be supported once the beta is over.

Anyone know how the Gear S2 smartwatch will handle security with Samsung pay. On the phone you have to swipe your fingerprint or use a pin before you use Samsung Pay to pay for anything. I wonder how the watch will handle that.

I was reading somewhere that the heart rate monitor will detect if you've taken the watch off. If the watch hasn't been taken off since the last time you've used it you'll be able to use it without doing anything. If it detects that it's been taken off then they will require you to input a pin. Going to try and find the article that explains it in more detail.

Here's what I found from the article

The watch uses a 1-2 security punch for Samsung Pay:

The watch continuously monitors your heart rate, so if you haven’t taken the watch off since the last time you authorized it for payments it’ll be painless to walk up to a PoS terminal and pay.
If the watch was removed from your wrist since the last time you made a payment, it will ask for a personalized PIN that you set up to authorize the next payment, and won’t ask again until the next time you take the watch off.

And here's the source I got it from http://phandroid.com/2015/09/03/sam...november-3g-model-will-still-work-untethered/

Do you guys know which cards are rejected for now? I haven't been able to set up.

I also just tried it. At Jimmy John's. Walked in and told them I'd like to try this. They said, sure, but no other scanning apps works here. so I tried it....worked the first time..was Fast too!!! Apologize to anyone who's order was delayed. The staff crowded around the register and asked a lot of questions....but they know now....Samsung Pay works.

A week ago, I was able to use mine at Walmart at one of their regular registers. Worked fine. A couple of days ago, I was at a self-checkout, and it did not work. I tried it a couple of times and got an error both times. The employee working at the self check registers did say that they are different from the "manned" registers. I would think the magnetic strip would still work, but apparently it doesn't. Or it didn't in my situation.
