You probably already have it if you have flashed an updated ROM recently.

Don't ever accept a update that comes to your phone as you will lose root.
Ignore them like BigD5 said.
Then go into settings>system updates>>htc software update>uncheck "scheduled check".

Then you can also do this if you have adb set up on your pc.
Open command prompt,type or copy&paste.

adb remount <---enter
adb shell<--enter
mv /system/etc/security/otacerts.zip /system/etc/security/otacerts.zip.bak<--enter

That will make it so even if you did download the OTA it would not install.

Its the same with every new release rom developers will have a rooted version out as soon as possible.Can't give a time frame cause we haven't even heard of a gingerbread rom for the evo yet.
