Any other K-9 Mail fans? Significant release recently, v5.800, including a "major redesign of the user interface." Great to see development on this awesome open source email client is alive and well. I've been a user since the early Android days, and there's no other email client in the Play Store that offers the level of server side customization, something really important to me.

Anyway, here's a blog post on the recent release: https://k9mail.app/2021/07/24/K-9-Mail-is-back

I moved on to FairEmail. I liked k9 though and good to see it back

I see they finally changed the icon for K9. That old one was there for way too long

What a name from the past. That was my preferred email client since my first Android phone, might even had it on the first Nexus (which I still have). I might need to give K-9 ("master") a try again.

Unfortunately, the feedback on the latest UI changes is overwhelmingly negative, both in the K-9 forums and Play Store.

https://forum.k9mail.app/

They got rid of the useful initial screen that conveniently displayed the various configured email accounts and added a ridiculous, hard-to-reach hamburger menu and nav drawer requiring several more confusing taps to accomplish what previously took one tap with one hand on the device - merely getting to a particular email acct and viewing the inbox. The primary dev won't acknowledge that this was a huge design failure and has basically taken an arrogant stance about the design decision and implementation.

Although I don't like it, I'm sticking with it for now. Been using it for almost 10 years, I have nine accounts currently set up, each with a different configuration, and no time right now to search for a replacement. But the forum makes for some interesting reading for anyone interested in a bit of online drama. :)
