K9 is draining my battery

My battery has been holding steady at 40% at bedtime every night for the past few weeks. Yesterday I put k9 on one of my home screens and by 5 pm I was down to 20%. I took it off last night and today I was back to my normal usage. This was no scientific test, but I think I'll stick with the native email asp for now. The only thing I was using it for was sending emails with a different from address.
