Keep screen off with default text app?

Been looking and can't find the option to have the screen stay off when new messages arrive

Unfortunately there's no way to do this. The stock Samsung messaging app will always light up the screen upon notification (unless, of course, you disable notifications, which kinda defeats the purpose). I'd suggest to move to a 3rd party messaging app as those usually don't have this 'feature'.
