I have the "keep screen turned off" feature activated on my phone. This setting is in Display...Keep screen turned off.

However, my screen won't turn off when it's placed in my pocket. I also tried to tightly cover all the sensors (front and back) and the screen will not power off.

Anyone else having the same problem?

Mine works fine. I just covered the top with my hand and hit the home button, a warning came up saying the phone screen would turn off in 5 sec. And it did.

The way I read that feature is that it doesn't turn the screen off. If it's already off, it prevents it from turning on in a pocket.

Id adjust your screen timeout instead.

Mine doesn't work, I have the option selected and I keep my phone in my work shirt chest pocket, I catch it constantly trying to turn on, I thought maybe it was trying to use face detection so I disabled that, but it still turns on... Frustrating. I always manually power the screen off as well.

IIRC The feature works using the ambient light and proximity sensors. If it's in a loose pocket where there's light I could understand how that happens.

The option is for if the phone is turned on in the pocket it turns on with a message saying it will be turning the screen off in 5 seconds. Preventing the screen from turning on would lead to issues with turning the phone on in the dark.

I am experiencing a similar issue as the original poster. I have an s8 plus, and when the phone is in my pocket and I make/receive a call in my vehicle through the cars hands-free system, the calls will keep dropping. I now believe that this is due to the screen turning on while in my pocket and the hang-up button being selected as it rubs against my pocket/leg. There is no way light is reaching the phone in this scenario.

If I take the phone out of my pocket, the hands-free calling in the vehicle has no issues. Calls are not dropped.

Is anyone aware of a way to address this issue?

This is very frustrating. I never had this issue with my prior phone.

JLUTZ, I've seen many people observing this for the past two months and I never seen anyone from Samsung respond. It's so easy to recreate the error using a wired or wireless headset. Samsung must want it this way because they think it's funny when our dark pockets call 911, summon an Uber driver, and download apps from their playstore.

I am having the same issue. That feature worked wonderfully with my S6 Edge+ but with the S8+ the screen will not stay off in my pocket. While in my pocket the phone has called people, adjusted my calendar and opened random apps. I've contacted Samsung multiple times and they say there are no reported issue with the feature and had me fully reset my phone to no avail. Now they are telling me to ship my phone in which takes 2 days, then 5-7 days to fix then another 2 days to ship back....

I have the same issue, and this is my 2nd galaxy. The S7 & S8 plus have issues with screen not locking. Also, the charging input gets dirty easily causing a defect. I had to buy a wireless charger. Samsung is aware of the S7. but they are brushing the complaints on S8 to the side. Reason maybe, they have the S9 and note to fall back on for sales.
