Keep the 10 or A9?

I've had the A9 since launch, had the 10 for 2 weeks now, I just don't know if the phone feels much better than the A9. Has anyone else made the same jump?

A9 is plenty fast, has solid battery life( though I'll probably buy a wall charger if return the 10), the 10 for whatever reason just feels a bit bigger compared to the a9.
Speakers on the 10 don't even compare, the in ear system is nice too.

The touch keys are SO LOW though, does that not bother anyone really?

Camera is obviously better on the10 also, front facing ois is cool.

Basically comes down to 650-280(sale of the a9)=370 for an... Incremental(?)/large but unneeded upgrade, worth it?

Those that upgraded from the m8 and m9 I totally get where you're coming from but I feel like the a9 was/is great. Am I just focusing too much on the negatives,?

Same boat. The 10 has a better camera and battery, but the A9 has a better screen. The A9 also has pretty darn good audio. I'm just not sure it's worth the upgrade, especially considering I will probably buy the new nexus in 4 months anyway.

Right. It's far and away a jump from the m8 and m9, but the a9 is fantastic. Almost useless IMO with the speakerphone to me since it's easy to cover, everything else I love/loved about it though. Kinda wish the phone was more along the lines of the A line rather than M line.

Is there anything else you particularly like/ don't like, beyond what I said? HTCs warranty is only 14 days, but my credit card technically would let me return it for another few months. Id just rather not sit on two phones indecisively.... especially if they DO come out with an A10. I may end up very unhappy. I didn't know HTC was making the next Nexus. Is that actually confirmed?

Negatives are, to an extent, a good thing to keep in mind, because it allows us to form and ask important questions which is what these forums are for! I agree that the touch buttons are set pretty low but I'll get used to it. I never owned the A9, so I can't give a solid answer. But I got my 10 yesterday and have no regrets. Keep it as long as you can within the return period and spend quality time with your 10. Plus also factor in the hardware differences if that at all matters to you (processor, battery, build, etc). I imagine that the A9 is a solid device, though. You're understandably more bonded with the A9 after that period of time so I know the choice between two HTC phones seems strange especially when each phone they make is generally a solid one. My decision, for example, is to keep the 10 because I really enjoy it so far, though I just came from a Moto X Pure which started to strangely behave as if it were extremely outdated. You'll probably just need other people's perspectives and your own time with the device.

I had the M8 and was happy, didn't see a strong reason to upgrade. But, having the 10 now, I'm super happy I did. If you're looking for one big reason, you might not find it. But, now that I'm using the 10 I can find a hundred small reasons that make it a very worthwhile upgrade. They really did nearly everything right. I can easily see myself being happy with this for the next 2 years., maybe more.

HTC really does know how to make a phone that can last

Lol how is this even a question???

htc 10

You clearly didn't use the A9 at all. The negative reviews were all biased, find an objective one and you'd get the truth.

The A9 fits better in the hand, has qc 3.0 also, it's no slouch in processing, hasn't once gotten hot(10 has, and probably will continue to do so like the m8 I had)...kind of odd the A9 doesn't get hot tbh.

Again, cameras better on the 10, screen takes up more of these phone, speakers are far and away better, in ear buds are better with the tuning. I'm just trying to figure out if it's $400 better. This is more about the quality of the A9 than the 10.

Again, I get the m8/9 jumpers. I loved my M8 and as soon as i got the A9 it was a done deal no questions, even with losing the boomsound. M8/9-> quantum leap to 10.
I love their phones, I'm not knocking the 10, the faults it does have are extremely small. If I don't keep this I'm sure I'll get the next one they make, whether it's an A10 or 11 next year. I like there Branding gone from the front like everyone, these darn cap keys kill me sometimes though. Never thought I'd wish they stayed on screen.

Honestly all of their phones can last. If I didn't get so shiny eyed always I'd still have my m7. Great company, hope it sticks.

Maybe the A9 is the phone for you then. I thought it would have been a lateral move from the M8 and I gave up on HTC when the A9 came out. It just hit the wrong buttons for me. To me, the 10 is like the M8 if it went to the gym for 6 months. For a $400 difference, I'd jump on it. But, like I said, maybe the A9 is your ideal phone and there's certainly nothing wrong with that.

I can understand, even though I never bought the A9. I was very very interested, but I ultimately chose the 6p. I was too worried about camera and battery life. I love the 10 but if I had already bought the a9 I don't think I would have gotten it. In all honesty, due to at&t not getting the 10 I ALMOST considered getting the a9 again just now, but ended up switching to Verizon.

As the op pointed out, it's a matter of relative value. The 10 is better, but is it $400 better? I also know for sure that the new nexus well get my dollars, so maybe I just roll with the a9 through the summer.

The A9 was a really under rated phone. Most reviewers took issue with the $500 price, which they should have. I got it new for $300 on swappa though, so for the price it has been an incredible phone for me. The battery could be better but I'm around outlets and QC 3.0 all day so its a non issue.

Turns out I misread the return policy anyway. It's 30 days not 14. Towards the end I'll probably switch back to the A9 for a week and see if I care about the differences. 14 is for the vive =p

I paid 400 for my A9. Worth it then and now Imo. I'll have some more time to decide though.

So I have the A9 and the 10. The A9 is really great and I got it for $250 basically brand new. When I got the 10 I used it for 5 days to see how I liked it. I then went back to the A9 to see if I missed anything from the 10. Initially I thought I didn't. I actually initiated a return of the 10. But after a few days I went back to the 10 to try it one more time. I realized the camera was better, the battery was better, screen size was better, and the buttons not taking up screen space were all better on the 10. The A9 is really really nice but for me the 10 is overall better. I'm not sure it's worth the $370 upgrade but I think I'm gonna keep it anyway. Whether you do or not depends on if the pros outweigh the added cost.

This is the jump I made also. M8 was my favorite HTC so far and following the last update, I was expecting to go another year or so with it. But I was wrong once I tried the 10 in store and bought one that day and have zero regrets. Im keeping my M8 for back up and my music player at work eventually. Just gotta come to terms with letting the phone possibly get dirty or some scratches. Still running my DNA currently for music but lack of storage is killing me.

Your switched to Verizon to get the 10? Why not just buy the unlocked one from HTC?

I totally get this conundrum. The A9 is really a great phone. Solid camera, great performance, very nice screen, nice form factor, and quality audio through the headphone jack. In many ways it is nearly the equal of the 10 and maybe surpasses it in screen quality.
For me, however, keeping the 10 boiled down to 2 things, the camera is a step up and the battery life is far better.
I won't be saying goodbye to my A9 though, I'll be keeping it around for a backup.

Me too, keeping the M8 because it'll make a great music player for the wife and because I like the duo cam for certain things. Those effects can make some really charming social media pics.
Just got in a new battery for the M8 and I'm sure it will be a helpful tool for years to come, even if it's not a daily driver for me anymore.

Is one better for longevity than the other? If you keep the A9, will you be likely to get a new device soon? What about if you had the 10? Which one is likely to last you the longest?
