Keep unlimited data with new 4G phone?

I know that if you have unlimited data and use a new every 2 upgrade to get a 4G phone (and extend your contract) you can keep your unlimited data and use it on your new 4G phone - correct?

What about this scenario I'm currently in: I have unlimited data and a Droid X, but I'm getting a new 4G phone from a friend - not using an upgrade or extending my contract. My plan was to just go online and activate the device on Verizon's website - will I need to change my data plan, or will it just switch me to unlimited 4G? Is this something I should maybe do over the phone or in a store to make sure everything stays the way it is?

I want to make sure I do this right so any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, I believe you will be automatically switched. I'd call to make sure to be honest, but I know I went from Dinc to GNex without a problem.

You are grandfathered in on the unlimited data

Verizon CSR said to switch phones online and see what happens. It *should* switch to unlimited 4G, but if not she said to call back and they'd see I was unlimited and make it work.

I ordered my GNex on the phone, everything switched over no problemo.

Since I'm not buying a phone from VZW (its a gift from a Googler) I thought this might be a unique situation.

Consensus is that it will work one way or another, which is awesome. Many a rural dial-up internet subscriber should be jealous.
