hi. I need to keep appa i close, well...CLOSED! Which apps will do this? I about the app called Kill Apps. I use it, but since i have malware on my phone, it does not work too well. There is always a failure in closing some apps. Also, when i go into Settings>Device Maintainence and tap on Optimize, it often closes apps, but they open up again. How do i close apps and keep them closed?????

I assume you want to keep these apps on the phone, and not just uninstall them? Or are these the malware apps you're referring to?

Malware is not something you want to keep on your phone, since you probably don't know exactly what it's doing there (and it might be stealing information as you use it). I would focus on getting rid of that malware first. If you're unable to get rid of it with respected solutions like Malwarebytes, then I would do a factory reset, and then set the phone up as a brand new phone, rather than restoring it from a backup.

Android is designed to keep memory full, so it's always going to restart apps in the background to do this. It tries to stick to apps you use most often, and doing this saves battery power.

As for malware, it's rather hard to get that on your phone. I question if you're really infected, unless you've been in some super sketchy areas of the internet and trying to get yourself infected.

Are you still going for a new device?
I see your other thread here

hi. i thought about resetting the phone, but why do the malware creators always gotta win? how come there isn't a super-advanced app somewhere that will find malware and remove it? Even Malwarebytes won't remove my malware. My phone goes as slow as a turtle sometimes. I am going to upgrade to a GP8 soon, but still, resetting my phone mught not even do any good, because my nephew who is as close to being a phone/computer expert suggested that my malware might be living in my phone's chips, because it always seems to cause a SSSSLLLLLOOOOIWWWW down of my phone, whenever i have done a factory reset.

What device do you have, and what version of Android is it running? Is it from a carrier or factory unlocked?
hi. my phone is an old one, which might be a reason why it doesn't perform very well. It is a Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime. I will be upgrading to a GP8 soon. I am running a very old Android version. Oreo, or 8.1.

i don't usually go on sketchy sites. It might be malware from a file i got from an old HDD that i copied to my phone. I have HDD's galore full of stuff that i have downloaded from the web over the past 25+ years. The only problem is no anti-malware apps won't find anything.

That's not how it works. Programs (malware or not) do not run universally across all operating systems. I can guarantee there is no file you could have transferred from your old hard drive to the phone that would have ran, much less infected it with malware. Even if you somehow transferred malware to the phone, it wouldn't be able to do anything with it. It would just sit there. Android wouldn't recognize it as a program or how to run it, and the program's Windows based instructions wouldn't work on a mobile OS. They are two different programming languages. This is why the Android anti -malware programs aren't finding anything, because there's nothing there for them to find.

This is the most likely culprit of the slowdowns. Yes, Android tries to keep memory full by keeping things open, but you are likely trying to run modern day apps on a phone that is ancient by today's standards. Those apps are going to demand a ton more resources and processing power from your phone than your phone was ever meant to have.

You likely don't have a malware issue, just a resource limitation issue.

Malware creators only "win" if users let them. The best way to fight them is to avoid getting malware in the first place -- it's actually pretty rare to get malware, if you follow basic guidelines:

Take upgrading as a chance at a fresh start. Don't restore your phone and install apps from reputable developers in official channels only.

On a side note, malware developers are taking advantage of a bug in Android. I have an app in Deep Sleep (Disabled) , No Background Data, etc.. Yet somehow it wakes up, tries to phone home and goes back into a dormant state again, I know this because AdGuard informs me about my firewall.

Anyway, OP, as mentioned, new phone, new start. Develop good habits with the resources provided above and you won't even get into this situation.

Thanks for mentioning AdGuard's firewall. I just realized I never have used it & I have the paid version. So I'm off to study up on how to configure it. Thanks again!

You can add custom scripts too. I rewrote one I found online in archive.org (to remove the phone home in the script) to disable all AMP sites globally.

I think most grease/script monkey scripts work with a few exception, like the Amp free version I have is the only one that works for me.

Welcome to the forums. I am not sure how much I can add that the others have already suggested, but...

This. Absolutely this.

This next suggestion may incite some flak. Perhaps a different phone manufacturer, aside from Samsung. I know their UI can get pretty heavy, and if they try to cram it onto a phone that only has, say, 4GB of RAM, you may not have a much better experience. To add to that, all the other features they have just piles onto RAM use. My point is this...if you don't use those features, but they need to stay loaded into RAM, that is just as bad as having apps that you don't use eating up RAM.

I'd actually bet money that your speed issues aren't malware, but misallocation of RAM, and a fairly low amount of RAM as well.
