Keeping Unlimited Data with Only One Line???

I am currently on the Nationwide Talk & Text Plan with only one phone on my account. I have unlimited data and am trying to keep it, but I also want to upgrade.

I was wondering if this would work:

1. Add my old dumb phone to my account for $9.99/mo
2. Upgrade the dumb phone line to a new phone
3. Transfer the new phone (once activated) over to my unlimited line and put the dumb phone back on the $9.99/mo line

I've seen the posts where people that already have a few lines on their account do the alternate upgrade just fine, but I haven't seen anyone post about doing it with just one line on the account and adding another.

Also, would I have to put a data plan on the dumb phone account in order to upgrade it to a smart phone?

You can't add a line on an individual account for $10 . You would have to convert the line from an individual account to a family account, which would most likely run you more than $10 more per month. The lowest advertised tier is 700 minutes for $70 for 2 lines .there is also a 550 minute family loyalty share plan for $60 for 2 lines , ymmv on getting this plan.

You would have to add a data plan when you upgrade but once you get phone, you can move it to your other line and remove the data plan once you put the dumb phone back on the line

I wasn't aware of that. I was told by a few Verizon reps that it would be $9.99/mo to add a line to my account. Thanks for the info.

Just talked to Verizon again, and I would have to change it to a family share plan making it $130 a month for both lines.

If you already have a family share plan, you can add a line for $10. If you have an individual plan, you would have to convert to a family share plan

Give bestbuy mobile website a try. I did a few weeks back and upgraded to a g2 keeping my unlimited data intact.

There is a 65+ 450 min plan, it is the same price as the 550 minute family loyalty share plan

That's weird. You can always get the 700 minute plan then move to another plan later.

I was in your same position, I have unlimited on one line, I added another line paid the $35 activation got the subsodized phone activated it. then paid Early term fee the following day. saved $200 off full price.
