I've been flashing Franco's kernels, starting at 169, which provided the best battery life for me. I went from 169 to 180, with a wipe and upgrade to AOKP 38, then to Franco 196. After leaving build 169 my battery life went down significantly. I don't know if it was going from AOKP 37 to 38 or flashing to Franco 180 that did it. I flashed back to 169, no wipe, and all my apps started force closing. I couldn't get in to back up data in my check book app, text messages, etc...
I don't have a blanket fix, but to bail myself out of this bind and save my data, I did fresh Titanium back ups of the apps I needed to get data from, uninstalled the apps, reinstalled, and did a Titanium restore of the data only. The apps functioned again and I was able to pull the data out of them that I needed. I hope this helps anyone struggling with force closing apps. Now, if I decide that I still need to, I can wipe and start fresh without losing data.
As a side note, this is day one back on Franco 169. I don't know if it was the jump to AOKP 38 from 37 or leaving Franco 169 that hurt my battery life, but I'll know for sure in a day or two.
