[KERNEL] Franco

anyone else have an issue with franco's kernel updater not recognizing the other 3 cores?
I get Core 1 active and cores 2-4 offline.

just seems weird to me.

That's showing if the cores are online at the present time. Meaning it's spun down the other 3 because it doesn't need them right then.

fire up a game, then switch back to the franco app really quick and you'll see them come online, then go back offline once the game loads in the background.

If it couldn't find the cores or they were disabled it would say that, like it does on the gnex which is dual core.

Are there drawbacks and consequences if I alter the settings of Fsync() and Logger under settings by disabling them? Would I loose data or need those boot logs down the road? Are there other tweaks that you as a power user would recommend?

On the N7 I don't see much to gain from stressing either of these settings. I disable logger but leave the fsync as its set, again, no real difference to be had, IMO.

I turn off logger and fsync on both on gnex and N7.
so disabling fsync means you fun the risk of having issues with data integrity. Well the way i see it, most of what i care about syncs up with DB or Google+ in the way of photos. Everything else is either synced with Google or backuped with TiBu.
I only notice marginal speed gains though and that could just be placebo.

This. Although I'm terrible at determining minute differences.

I haven't ventured into the kernel world yet. I have been reading up and researching. I am on a nexus 7 and GN both running CM10. Will Francos kernel work for both? Anybody have a better suggestion?

Yes. Different kernel builds but he supports both devices.

Thanks guys. I am going to try Franco's for now. As I said, I have been reading a lot and there is SOOO much out there to read it gets a bit daunting. Sometimes it's hard to find what you are looking for. So, if you would, humor me :)

For GN running CM10 I should use: franco.Kernel-r249-384GPU.zip or franco.Kernel-r249-512GPU.zip
For Nexus 7 running CM10 I should use: boot-r5.img

THe nexus 7 needs to be done in Fastboot.

slowly but surely understanding all of this stuff. Thanks for the help.

All correct. Franco has made his app "franco.kernel Updater" compatible with grouper now, so you can also grab the app and it will auto-flash the kernel for you. It includes a number of options for customizing, too. It's worth the investment of a few bucks to support a great developer, though I believe he has a free version available in the Play Store now as well.
