I been rooted for about a month now and love it, glad i did it and would never go back. i have the wireless tethering, Hulu and i pretty much seen every custom rom out their possible and have found that Myn Warm is obviously the best one out their and i know plenty would agree.

One thing i haven't gotten around to is Kernels. i'm running the custom kernel that came with this rom and i don't really see a difference in my baterry life, my battery dies just as much if i am using it as it is when its on stand by. (Carrying around a spare battery with me wherever i go is getting embarrassing )

I want to know everything there is to know about kernels possible in this thread so all the bright minds of AC please put your input here and even suggest your own if you'd like.

What i'm really trying to find out is

. What is a kernel and what does it mainly do

. How much voltage can a Evo take so i can find out what kernel fits best

. How do i install a kernel? is it same as flashing a custom Rom? and do you need to Wipe everything as you would a rom

. How long until you can tell if a Kernel is actually working

Thanks in advance

thank you, i try googling it and they keep saying installing kernels with custom roms and thats not what im looking for.

Thanked*

Check out the new Kernel Manager app on the market. It's really slick and provides the capability to download and flash kernels from within the app itself. There are also ratings available for each one.

It would be nice if teamwin could get more kernels on the app. Its like Rom Manager but for kernels.

it is a nice app but yea...i completely agree with you new2android....it needs more kernels. ive also noticed it only had AOSP kernels....unless im incompetent (which is probably true :p ) or that they have added new ones since i uninstalled the app

@joey132 make sure you d/l the right kernel for your ROM. if you have a Sense-based ROM (e.g. MikFroyo, Myn's Warm 2.2), make sure the kernel is also Sense-based.....the same goes if its AOSP (e.g. CM7).

yes you can flash it just like a ROM. put the kernel onto the root of your SD (i made a folder "Kernels" and put them in there so its easier for me to find) and just flash like you would a ROM. i would suggest wiping Cache and Dalvik Cache just to be on the safe side then flash the kernel. (some people also say to wipe the Battery Stats too....i, personally dont see a difference if i do or dont)

I just updated the app ( yeah I'm a lilttle slow, been way too busy here lately with work) but they did add Savaged-Zen (AOSP). They do have Netarchy (Sense) which has been on it since the day it was released. Also, they have the stock HTC kernel as well. One with SBC and one without.
