Keyboard - Am I being unreasonable???

So I just picked up my keyboard at lunch and came back to work. I was surprised that it didn?t come with its own charger. Was this an unfair expectation that a 150.00 keyboard would have a charger? Please don?t get me wrong, it?s very well built and not some cheap plastic keyboard but I was hoping that it would come with a charger so I could come back to work and start charging it so hopefully it would be fully charged so I can play with it when I get home.
The total weight in my hand feels a little heavier than I had expected but it does feel very solid.

The Prime is the quickest charging longest lasting device I have seen. If Prime is mounted in the keyboard, does the charge go to both devices? it may be more of a portability thing in ASUS' eyes. The docked use time is supposed to be somewhere around 20 hours right?

I said the same thing at first, but it does make sense (in a way). When the tablet is docked you can only charge one device, the keyboard. Additionally, ASUS expects (and rightfully so) that if you buy the keyboard dock, you also own a Transformer Prime, which came with the charging cable.

What it amounts to is that if ASUS hadn't included bull proprietary connectors to charge these devices you wouldn't have had the complaint that they cheaped out at all. You could just use one of the many micro USB connectors you have from cameras, cell phones, PS3 controllers, etc.

i assumed the dock came with an extra charger as well, seems to be in poor taste for asus to manufacture a seperate accesory, priced at 150,that does not include atleast a spare charger, planted a seed of doubt on weather i should purchase the dock or not, cheers asus.

Though i would of liked a spare one for travel purposes, its not really bothering me that it did not come with an extra one. Though i did find it funny it came with an extra cleaning cloth.

Both places I've tried ordering from quoted the dock at $137 and $129 FWIW.

So here's something I'm very happy about. First off, the manual says that when the Prime is connected to the Keyboard and you have the charger connected to the keyboard that it will not charge the Prime. This is in fact WRONG! I have both and the very first thing I did was connect my Prime to the Keyboard, plug the Keyboard in and watch what the battery indicator said. Both the Keyboard and the Prime battery levels went up until they were both full!

Actually, I believe their statement to be true. When they are docked it will not charge the tablet directly. The dock charges the tablet and the cable charges the dock. That's what gives you the experience that both batteries are simultaneously charging.

Also note that the keyboard dock does not actually power the tablet when it's connected -- rather, it charges the tablet battery when it's connected, and this is done automatically and cannot be altered (correct me if I'm wrong). I know some people would rather have the dock be reserve power (it would be easier to only charge the tab and leave the dock near 100% for when you need reserve power), but once the tablet is connected, the dock starts losing charge (again, correct me if I'm wrong).

Really guys? Semantics.. The point is that if you dock your Prime and plug in the keyboard everything eventually gets charged.. :p

As for where to plug cord, there's only 1 place when the prime is docked.

To me the dock is like a multi tool accessory for my Prime and didn't really think twice that it didn't have an A/C adapter since I knew that when its connected to the tablet, i can charge it or do it separately while playing with my tablet.

For $150, I think its a great deal for what it is. Battery, keyboard, Stand, USB (for my mouse, etc), SD slot, etc.

I just got mine and I am typing from it now. Pretty damn impressive if you ask me. I am excited to put this thing through some tests of my own. I am touch typing now and it feels rather smooth.

Just got my keyboard dock today and there are a lot of things that I am really impressed with. I agree, it would have been nice if the dock came with another charger just for the sake of an having a extra charger around. It does however come with a nicer cleaning cloth. In any event, here are my initial impressions.

The overall build of the dock is really nice; similar construction and finish as the tablet. It is lighter than the tablet which makes the mated pair a little top-heavy. You can't tilt the screen back too far or it tips over. The hinge feels nice and sturdy with little slop. I have found it a little difficult to open as there is no good place to get your fingers between the screen and the keyboard.

The function keys are great and give you quick access to all common tasks. Also, I heard previously that one complaint about the dock was that it was easy to brush over the touchpad when typing. While true, I was happy to find that there is a key to disable the touchpad making this a non-issue.

Another function that I was not aware of upon purchasing the dock is that it sleeps and wakes the tablet automatically when you close and open the lid. This keeps you from fumbling to find the power button to turn it on and off and saves battery when closing the screen (truthfully, I could care less about saving battery life when I have 16 hours to spend)

Some things I haven't quite figured out is the right-click functionality and the purpose of the 'alt' and 'Ctrl' keys. For some reason I thought that there was a 'right-click' button on the touchpad and it would essentially function as a back button in Android. However, on my keyboard dock, there is only one button below the touchpad and it does the same thing no matter where on the bar you press it. I haven't found any purpose for the alt and ctrl keys yet; maybe they will function like normal when using remote desktop with a windows machine..? I'll keep exploring

Overall, I am very satisfied with the keyboard dock so far. Anyone who thinks the keyboard dock doesn't offer an additional usability to the tf prime is sorely mistaken and should buy one immediately.

ps: How pumped are you that ICS has red-line spell checking

Sometimes I don't express myself very well. I wasn't complaining about the dock at all. I was hoping for an additional charger so I could have one at work also. I went ahead and bought a charger that was for the original Transformer. Unfortunately, it was much shorter than what came with our Prime.
The keyboard makes for a great charging option but some days I might not want to bring the keyboard to work. I ordered a case that should arrive today and I don’t want to have to always pull it out to attach it to the keyboard.
There is a case on EBay that has a place for the keyboard that snaps on and off but it isn’t available until the 28th of February.

Both of my teenage kids came in at different times and saw they keyboard attached to the Tablet. They both asked if we had bought a new laptop. My son thought it was the coolest thing when I took the tablet off and said no, it’s my tablet.
