Keyboard finger stutter.

I'm having trouble typing with this XL. making me contemplate switching (back) to a Note 8.

What exactly are your problems? I have not had any issues with any version of the Google keyboard (GBOARD) on any of my phones. I have large hands and big fingers and never have any stuttering (?) or repeating letters...
