Keyboard Issues, any help?

I'm having a heck of time with my new EVO. I tried to return it to Sprint but they told me they don't do the manufacturers warranty, *shrug*. As it is my EVO is on 2.2 and for no reason at all sometimes my keyboard in portrait mode stops responding on certain keys to key presses, like the screen is dead in that spot. Other times it works fine, and will work fine for a while then out of the blue it acts up again.
I can turn the phone landscape and the keyboard works fine there, and the spot on the screen is only effected when the keyboard is open. For instance, if I want to hit the G key it will hit the H key or the J key but go right over the G, same with V and Y.
I've pulled the battery, and done 3 hard resets, all to the same outcome. Is there something else I can try before I pull my hair out here?
Thanks.

don't take it back to the sprint store you bought it at. and when did you purchase the phone? do you have ins? some factors to think about. if you bought the phone in the past 30 days, get to a DIFFERENT sprint store and tell them the situation or call *2 and talk to a decent operator. if you have ins and it's been longer than 90 days, pay the 50 and be done with it. if it's been within the first year, you can always ship it to HTC and they will do a "repair" as long as the phone looks like it has never touched anything other than your hand or a case.

Hope this helps!!

Sprint will most def. 100% do a manufacturer warranty exchange, try the next closest sprint store or ask to speak to a manager.

Yes, but they don't cover warranty repair. exchange yes, Manufacturers warranty, no.

I had a problem with my Evo I got on 6/4, the screen had white spots on it and the charging port got to the point where I couldn't handle the Evo while it was plugged in. Instead of replacing the screen and port they gave me a new Evo under the manufacturer warranty because I don't have insurance. I think the OP can most definitely get the same type of exchange for dead spots on his/her touch screen.

OP, make sure you're going to a full fledged sprint store and not just an authorized Sprint reseller.

element, thats awesome! i work for sprint and i know managment told us that we're not allowed to do that. however, each sprint store is different. :)

Thanks for the replies, i will try again I suppose, I paid full retail price for this phone since I wasn't eligible for upgrade and never gave a phone number or anything to the sales person just paid the $599 and left the store. I was thinking more along the lines of a software fix of some kind since the screen is fine then stops for a few minutes at a time, sometimes an hour or two. I tried to get it serviced or replaced again and this time the keyboard was working flawlessly and wasn't able to be reproduced.

another new development, when my screen becomes unresponsive I can rub it on my shirt and it will begin to work again. Weird.

It sounds like you do have a hardware problem. How long ago did you get the phone? If it's within 30 days they should exchange it for you. If not it should be a matter of getting it covered under warranty.
