Kies does not show contents of Note 3

I am trying to view certain photos or videos within Kies on my Mac. I have the latest version and have downloaded drivers in Kies. When my Note 3 is connected using the supplied cord to a USB port on my computer ( not on a hub) and when I click on the photos or videos tab just below where it shows my phone, it just keeps showing a spinning circle. Never does it show images, videos or music for that matter on my phone. I have the current version of KitKat on the phone. Any one with suggestions?
