kies mini help

I am trying to figure out what's up with Kies mini. Trying to figure out how to solve the problem before Gingerbread is released.

Here are the steps I have taken:

1. Device drivers have been loaded <I see the Captivate under the safely remove hardware under windows XP)

2. Get into debugging mode on the phone
3. Load Kies Mini
4. Plug phone in

After I follow the above steps, I get a device not registered under phone firmware and cannot see if it needs an upgrade or not.

Am I missing a step?

I never have to go into debugging mode.. I just plug my phone in, select "kies mini" in the menu that pops up, and then open the program on my computer and it works fine.

Never mind, I finally figured out why it may not be working.

Still having problems with unregistered device in kies mini...not sure what to do to fix it, after I thought I did.

If anyone has any ideas, please suggest them as I am at a loss on what to do at this point.

I've seen others mention to try different USB ports.. I guess it can be picky.

Tried 3 different ports, still no dice.

Beginning to run out of options.
