Kindle app issues

I have a rooted Nook Color with Jelly Bean. Running off an SD card. SD card is a Sandisk 8gb class 4. I have the Kindle app installed. It has been taking a long time to open lately. Also it doesn't remember my last bookmark until I'm almost half way thru a book. All of my other apps seem to be working just fine. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and it seems to work for awhile and then it's back to this. My daughter has the same card in her Nook Color and is also having the same problems. I have 3.8.2.4 version and have updates turned off. Any ideas? Is there a version that works well on Jelly Bean? I loved the version I had on Gingerbread but don't recall which version it was. And then I don't know if it would work well on Jelly Bean.
