Kindle app sign in

One day I was using my Kindle app on Kit Kat and it was working. Next day I was asked to sign in, but the sign in and password places are dead. I tap on them and the keyboard does not show up. Kindle app still works on my LG G3. I'm not going to update my Nexus until I see no problems with Lollipop. But I do miss reading my books and I can't seem to find any chatter about this anywhere. Any solutions?

You could try uninstalling and reinstalling the app or just clearing the apps cache and data. Downside is that you have to redownload your books from Amazon. But if you can't use the app anyways, it's worth the effort.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that was the first thing I tried. I reinstalled the app. Nothing. I used an app cache cleaner. Nothing.

Have you tried going to the Amazon website and under your account deregistering the Nexus 7 as a Kindle device? Then you could see if you can re-register it from your device. (And do you possibly have too many devices registered?)

I have not tried that, but I recently registered some older devices so I don't think it is too many devices. The Kindle app will open. I hit the "start reading" button and then it goes to a sign in page. It is here where the problem lies. All the spaces and buttons are dead. I can't get a cursor in the forms. I can't get the "make a new account" button activate. It is just a dead page. I hit back and the intro page is active (the carousel works, the "start reading" button works). It is just the sign in page is non-responsive. I did do an uninstall and reinstall again and it is the same way. There is something blocking the sign in page from being active. Don't know if it is the app or a setting on my Nexus.

I have had exactly the same problem and after spending hours with Amazon customer service, who didn't have a clue I ended up having to do a factory reset.

I can replicate the problem by using a different account for kindle and the Amazon app store, soon as I do that I can't log into either app as apps won't let me input any info.

Amazon creates its own mini ecosystem on a device wherein any app you get from the Amazon app store looks to ensure that you are an "authorized user" by checking that the app store is loaded on the device and that the original purchaser is logged in. Delete the app store and the apps you got from Amazon will no longer run. So apps associated with different accounts don't coexist well at all.

I haven't downloaded any apps from the Amazon app store. Are you saying that I need to do something in that app so that I can use the Kindle app? I use the same account with the Amazon shopping app and the Kindle app.

No, I was really replying to the previous post regarding the mixing of different Amazon accounts on a device - given the way that the Amazon system seems to work, I am not surprised that mixing accounts would cause a problem. Gw0lgn appears to be having a similar issue as you but for different reasons (if I interpret that user's problem correctly in that it was due to using multiple accounts on the one device).

The only Amazon app I have on my tablet is the Kindle. Do I have to have something else to be able to sign in to my account?

No. Did you check the Kindle device registration? I don't recall exactly but I thought that every time you uninstall and reinstall the app that you get a new device registration; i.e., you can build up the number of registered devices beyond the limit even though you have only the one physical device. I know that occurs if you wipe and reload your device but I don't recall if that happens when you simple uninstall/reinstall.

Thanks for the suggestions but I checked my Amazon page and the device is registered and everything looks kosher there.
