So I got the update now my phone won't charge and won't save contacts. It also won't do a bunch of other random things. What can I do?

Factory Reset from the Recovery menu would be my first thought.

No one ever does but it is something we have to do at times if we want a phone that works correct hopefully. Sorry for your misfortune with the update. I was one of the luck ones who came through it OK.

Boot into recovery and wipe the cache as a start.
If that doesn't work you will need to reset.

Start with the cache.

If you don't want to lose stuff, definitely start with wiping the cache from recovery. I have read of several people doing this and it has worked in a couple of cases. There are many options on the Play Store that will allow you to back up data. The apps installed from the store will come back on their own. You will have to reload anything that you sideloaded. Anyway, back up your stuff before doing the FDR. The Cache Wipe shouldn't mess with your data, but the phone may be sluggish for a bit right after doing it.
