Kit Kat UK - Update for the Samsung Galaxy s4 to 4.4

Finally - Android 4.4 Kit Kat has landed in the UK!

Just downloading the OTA software update on my unlocked S4 as I post!

No update yet available on the Mrs' S3 Mini.

The Kit Kat rollout began yesterday in the UK.
I updated then.

I had some problems with the stock email app, which didn't like pop3 emails. IMAP on Gmail and yahoo mail worked fine, but Pop3 from TalkTalk, was playing up, not appearing on my Galaxy note 3.
They were appearing on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.2, and Outlook on my desktop.

After hours of fiddling around, I managed to get the stock email app working with Pop3.

Today it seems to have settled down, and I am receiving emails as was, before the upgrade.

Apart from the battery indicator being white instead of coloured I see no differences in software and definitely cant see any performance changes.

What am I not seeing?

Noticed my battery life is absolutely terrible, draining very fast thankfully I only have this phone for another month till my Z2 arrives.

Ever since installing update I have found soooo many problems with many Apps.
Wish I had never installed the KitKat.

My battery life is terrible . According to GSam battery monitor with Jellybean I was getting 1d 11h 21m (8h 56m 0s active usage), now with Kitkat getting 18h 45m (6h 14m 0s active usage) It also seems more sluggish as well. Before I installed Kitkat I cleared cache and reset data and after I installed kitkat I cleared cache and reset data. Have got exactly the same apps installed . So much for better battery life and performance. Also my NFC icon is missing in the status bar

Hi guys,

How do you initiate the update? I have Galaxy S4 on Vodafone UK, but definitely unlocked (tried orange, t-mobile and austrian sim card), running android 4.3, and I just went on

Settings->Device->Software Update

But it says that no updates are available. Is it because Vodafone maybe have still not released 4.4.2?


One other question - my phone is unbranded. It doesn't have Vodafone apps and bloatware on it. I'd like to keep it that way, what is the best way to update to KitKat with that in mind? Kies? Or do it manually via Odin (phone is not rooted)?
