Feeling like a bit of an ***** today, picked up a bargain new LG G7 and the IMEI stick on the rear was practically welded on so in the end I tried to get the last remnants off using some warm soapy water and the rough side of a kitchen sponge.

Net result massive scratching on the rear of the phone. I just assumed the sponge would be softer than Gorilla glass 5, clearly I was wrong.

Anybody know how hard these sponges are on the Mohs scale vs GG5?

I'm sure it varies depending on sponge design, but I did some digging and some sponges contain silicone carbide. Silicone carbide rates 9-9.5 on the Mohs scale, so it's very possible you had something rather abrasive.

I’ve ordered an Oem replacement back cheap on eBay so May chance my arm further trying to fix it.
