Knock off the knock on...

It's a great feature, but since my phone lives in my pocket when at work I really need to turn it off. The dialer code from the G3 (replaced with the G4 model number) doesn't work.

The screen shouldn't turn on when it's in your pocket. Do this: cover your proximity sensor. Try double tapping your screen to wake it up. What happens? The screen should turn on for a brief second, then quickly turn off. It's a fail safe to prevent accidentally waking in pockets.

Also, when I looked in the Hidden Menu, I couldn't find anything relating to Knock. The code for the G4 is:
277634#*#

Wouldn't "Smart Location" solve that problem? Set up security and then just have Smart Lock turn off security when you're at home or someplace else it doesn't matter. At work security should just come on automagically.

If I cover the proximity sensor my phone won't tap to wake at all not even for a split second.

You're right. My first comment was based on my experience with my G3. On the G4, tap to wake won't work with the proximity sensor covered. Pressing the power button with proximity sensors covered turns the screen off immediately.

Where are the proximity sensors? At the top?

My phone is from Verizon. If I cover the top strip above the screen (putting my finger across the notification LED, camera, etc), and double-tap, the screen will come on, then turn off immediately. Same thing if I press the power button with that top strip covered.

So my behavior seems different than jrham & marcus.plans.

Admittedly, this is sort of inconsistent behavior. Sometimes when testing this (using a double-tap) I can get the screen to flash on then turn off immediately. Other times it will not turn on at all, and I'm not sure why it acts differently. It seems like maybe if I cover the top all at once, the screen will not come on at all. But if I slide my finger to expose the camera, then cover it again, then I got the screen to flash on/off. If I use the power button, instead of tapping, I can seemingly always make the screen flash on/off.

My G3 would pop on and off in my pocket all the time. After a factory reset it stopped

Well, bottom line, nobody should have any problem with the phone turning on in their pockets. =D

Thanks for the replies! I upgraded from a G2 where it was a huge problem and I ultimately just had to leave it disabled. I didn't even try to test the proximity sensor on the G4.
