My nexus player is off sync. The audio is always off no matter what application I use (even if I cast). How would I go about fixing this. I already unplugged it and trued to reset it.

You can try performing a factory reset. If that doesn't correct this issue than you may have a defective device and you will have to call Google customer service to replace it.
This may sound like a silly fix but was having similar problems with video sync and videos just flat out stopping. Had player in enclosed wood/glass entertainment center when having issues....moved player out of entertainment center to sit right beside flat screen feet.
No issues since with video cutting out any more. Seems it was a signal strength issue despite indicating good signal from within the cabinet.
