You all who wanted a lap dock but didn't wanna pay VZW's high prices are in luck, my dad picked up one this morning at our local corporate store for $50! Just wanted to pass the info in case anyone was wanting one! Thanks.

you can get the atrix lapdock for about the same price online. the atrix lapdock is nicer and has a larger screen. it does require some slight modification to have it docked directly to the lapdock, or you can use adapter cables instead of modding.

Where can you get adapter cables?

All4cellular.com sells a kit with the adapter cables included for $70 but it is oos right now. Cables are also available from a4c individually but it is much cheaper on ebay.

Otherwise you can buy them from ebay.

on ebay, search for

"micro hdmi extension cable"

"Micro USB B Male To Female M/F Extension Charging Cable"

i already had an atrix lapdock but picked up the lapdock 100 today as well. the atrix lapdock feels more like a premium product compared to the 100 which feels kinda cheap. the 100 does come with the proper cable, but if you want to dock the maxx on the lapdock, then the cable would have to be twisted a bit to get it to work. of course, if you want to put the phone on the table or whatever then this won't really make a difference. the lapdock 100 has an onscreen battery monitor for the lapdock while the atrix lapdock has a button you push at the front of the lapdock.

So I went to the VZW store in Mountain View, CA, today to consider buying the Lapdock 100. $49 sure seems to be a steal, and it's a nice piece of equipment, but the dealbreaker for me was that it has to be plugged in to a power source to operate. There's no rechargeable battery in the Lapdock, so if I were to take it to a cafe or the airport to use, I'd have to find a power outlet. I have an Acer A100 and an Acer A500, along with the Acer Bluetooth keyboard, so I figured that I already have more functionality with the 10" tablet tethered to my Maxx via Foxfi.

I also considered buying it just so I could sell it on eBay, but I'm just too dang lazy to pack it and ship it! For anyone in the Bay Area, I know that the Mountain View and Palo Alto stores still have Lapdocks.

Hmph. Shows you how much the VZW guys know. I only did a basic web search when i was considering it, and had difficulty finding that info. It's not clearly mentioned even on the Moto site.

Thanks for the info! Maybe I'll reconsider and buy one after all.

Clearing these out because Webtop is dead? :(

The VZW guy said (although must be taken with many grains of salt, as referenced above) that Google supposedly didn't want the laptop to potentially take business away from Chromebooks. Makes no sense to me, because what about all of those tablets? I wonder if it might also be due to the new generation of Razrs--maybe they won't be compatible with the existing Lapdocks, and Moto will want us to buy newer Lapdocks that will be compatible. After all, it's a business, right?

Well, it is mentioned on the box...

I was talking about trying to find the info on the web, since at the time I didn't see have the box in front of me. I actually flipped through the manual while I was looking at it in the store, and it didn't mention anything there either, although it was only one of those barebones Getting Started types of manuals.

Perhaps you were looking at a different manual than the one I was looking at because the one that came with my lapdock is a small manual as well, but it mentioned the battery and how to check it's level and disposal.

I love the functionality of the lapdock 100. Even my iphone buddies turn green w envy when they me plugged in w a wireless mouse. I can make calls, surf the web and text message all at the same time.

Anyone know if the lapdock 500 is also on sale?
