It's supposed to show up when you press and hold an app icon, and if you drag the icon there, it removes the icon from your screen.

I had that happen sometime (stay stuck in that mode) with the phone that was buggy. I talked Motorola into sending me a new one. Haven't seen that on this one so far, hoping not to.

I had one there with the word remove. It happened the day after I got it and was taking it into Verizon. The girl got rid of it but I didn't ask how. Have you tried restarting it?

yes, restart should fix the glitch

So I turned the phone off and back on and the X was gone and in it's place was the Google search bar which is where I've always kept the Google search bar. Must be a bug cause this is the second or third time that's happened.

I have run into the same experience. My first thought was Nova launcher was causing the issue but now believe it is the OS. I still love my moto X so I hope 4.4.2 fixes the issue.

I've had it happen also, it usually goes away on it own after a few minutes.

It happens if you long press the app to remove it and you don't actually bring the app up to the remove option. When the X sticks just long press the app again and let go, without removing the app and the X will disapear. This occurs on Nova Launcher for me.

This is an Android bug. It affected Nexus and GPE devices on 4.4 too. Not sure if it was fixed in 4.4.2 or not.

I've had that happen once as well. Reboot took care of it and I haven't seen it since. My guess is the Google search bar didn't load and/or force closed.

This happens to me if I long press and flick to delete an item from my home screen, but with Apex launcher only. Didn't do it on stock or Nova. Simply long pressed another item then tap my home screen and it goes away. Kind of a nuisance in the sense that it should not be doing it to begin with, but not a huge deal overall.

This has happened to me where I accidently swiped icons from the dock off of the screen. Can't long press on the item cause you can't see it, so I had to restart the phone.
