Latency?

Hey guys,

I'm curious about your average latency on 3g. Are you in the 300ms range, or more like 200 and below?

umm... my latency is between 93-125 most of the time. In my house (where I'm at now) it's higher, but I'm on wifi here most of the time anyway so I don't notice it.

Okay cool. Reason I ask is when I have to roam, it kicks to 2g and the latency is rubbish. I didn't know if that was Verizon in general or just a symptom of 2g.

Have you ever been on your 2g service, in the boonies perhaps? If so, was latency worse, ie around 335ms?

Sorry, I don't get 1x service anywhere near me, unless it's some highway and I never bothered to speed test. I live in the NorthEast, so Verizon is REALLY strong here.

2g is a lot slower, and EVDO-REv0 has a higher latency than RevA does.. Most sprint roaming agreements are 1x only, and Carriers tend to prioritize their own traffic (this is why MVNO's roaming off a network never quite get the same coverage)

Yeah I knew that's how most agreements are and I knew 3g is much faster than 2g. I was just curious to compare a Sprint roaming on Verizon 2g with a Verizon on its own 2g.
