First post here, just ordered a Google Nexus 7 16GB from Google Play today. A few questions...
Ordered it from Google Play instead of getting it local at Staples or Newegg because I was concerned if there is a problem, I could get a quick replacement from Google (with a credit card hold - ok) anytime over the year long warranty. Have heard bad experiences with Asus RMA/long delays...so I understand going direct with Google is better. And Newegg has no way of telling me what build I might get from them...anyway...
1) I was "told" I would be getting a later build which supposedly is "more reliable / better built" than earlier builds (Which was acknowledge by a rep as having more issues). Not sure of the build SSN until it gets here, but a call to Staples indicated they had Dxxxx SSN models and that they seem to have gotten rid of many earlier issues...so I would hope I would get something similar. Does anybody have any experience with models (16 or 32GB) of this recent manufacture?
2) I was thinking of the 32GB, but thought I wouldn't really need it and didn't feel like spending an extra $50 given my predicted usage...so does anyone know, that if it is a recent Dxxxx SSN build, does the "3GB slowdown" problem still exist? [ I ordered the 16GB model even with this in mind, as I figure I won't ever get that low (No music or games, just a few videos and various apps), and if I need more space, I could just go the USB OTG cable route. ]
3) My understanding is to NOT upgrade the Android from 4.1 to 4.2.x.x as this has caused slowdowns / problems for other users...or is this just fixed by turning off Google Currents?
4) Any other issues I should be aware of as a new owner? This is my first modern tablet (Had a 2003 Toshiba laptop tablet before). My last PDA of any type was a Palm Tungsten T....
thanks...
