I am running a stock Rezound with 3.14.605.12 71ORD, which was pushed to my phone on 8/2/2012. I have heard that there is a new OTA (or maybe 2). I believe the one I am thinking about is a "global) version and replaces the .12 with .3. I keep checking SETTINGS - SOFTWARE UPDATE to see if it is available, but no joy. I am a total noob and REALLY reluctant to install anything myself. My phone works great and I don't want to mess it up. It seems like every time I see rave reviews about some new mod that has been developed, a day or two later I start seeing complaints about various things not working or even bricked phones. Does anyone know if the new global OTA is still being pushed?

The 4.3.605.2 Global Mode update has not begun actually pushing out, as of the last time I checked it is still not pushing out anywhere (although there was soak test of 4.3.605.1 that had a limited release in late August, but was stopped due to update issues). It is available as an RUU from Android Police. It was expected to be available mid to late September but there has been no official confirmation of that which means it might show up tomorrow, or in three months.

Thanks to Major Payne and acejavelin for your replies. I have downloaded the 4.3.605.2 Global Mode update from Android Police as well as instructions for installation. I don't like the idea of wiping my phone, but I have screen shots of everything as well as a backup using the Mybackup app. Now, all I have to do is work up the nerve to do it!

It is actually super simple and Mr. Smith has an amazing tutorial for doing it. Now my question is that if you are willing to do a RUU you might as well go with a custom ROM as they are also simple to do and provide better battery life. I have one that lasted me over a day and a half on the extended battery.

My highest priority is to end up with a fully functioning phone. My second is to be able to buy a local GSM sim in different Latin American countries (most often Mexico and Colombia) and make calls because my clients don't want to pay $2.50 to $3.00 per minute for my calls. I'm an environmental and safety consultant and need to work in Latin America occasionally. Any suggestions for a ROM? Thanks again.

Actually Yes, there is

VenomROM one of the most stable roms out there but you would have to flash it when you want GSM then reflash when you want it back to CDMA..

I do not know of any rom that allows you to move back and forth without flashing but i could be wrong.

^^^ This sounds correct, as Major Payne usually is... there are (or were) various CDMA and GSM variants of many ROMs for the Rezound, none of them seemed to do both elegantly at the same time, but I have never tried it, so YMMV.

The "Global Mode" in Verizon's world just means you can use a Verizon SIM card on other partner networks worldwide, at a cost of course, without having to buy a local burn phone.

The main draw of the Global Mode RUU, other than for the occasional international traveler with an expense account, is that the radios and even the phone itself is more stable, better battery life, etc. Read the full change log on AP for more on that.

I think they just attempted to push this to my phone. I just got a no updates available popup on my phone.

Sorry to ask a noob question, but if I installed the ROM, would that allow me to use the Rezound with Docomo or another carrier in Japan? I'm going to be living there for at least a year.

Enzo,

If they use the Bands that the rezound has then yes you would be able to. Unfortunatly I'm not an expert on Global as I do not travel outside the country for my work so i do not have experience in this section.
