So I rooted my phone with HBoot 1.5 a few months ago and have ClockworkMod but still the stock ROM, but I'm not sure how to update now to the new OTA. If I try to download it and run it, I get an exclamation mark and a blue Android and it doesn't do anything. How do I get this new update and the battery life and performance improvements? Do I have to lock my phone again? How do I do that? Will I lose root and the ability to tether?

Any help on any of these questions would be much appreciated, even it it's just a point in the right direction.

No, you do not need to lock your phone to get it. All you technically need to do is flash a stock recovery, reboot your phone, download and install the OTA update, flash a custom recovery (Clockwork) through fastboot, boot into recovery, install su zip, and then reboot. You will be running the most current update still rooted with a stock ROM. Usual warnings of not responsible for things breaking but I have done this method and everything went smoothly. Also, check out this link to find out how to generate a stock recovery. You just need to make sure you find the right RUU to generate the stock recovery. Follow part b to make it yourself.

OK so the RUU im looking for is it a rooted one or the stock one? The page I am looking at says deodexed or odexed than many different versions. Like
"Shooter_S_Sprint_WWE_2.17.651.5_deodex.zip"
or
"Shooter_S_Sprint_WWE_2.08.651.3_odex.zip".

OR do I just use the stock RUU that has hboot img files?
like
PC86IMG_Shooter_S_Sprint_WWE_2.17.651.5_Radio_1.06 .00.1216_NV_NV_spcs_1.42_release_233304-signed.zip

BASICALLY which RUU do I use for E3D.

If you are running 2.08.651.2 then use the official RUU from sprint. The RUU is different than any of the ROMs you listed. Those are all ROMs or total updates. You actually need the RUU itself. Go to here for a download link.

Here is also a direct download link taken from the xda page above.

Let me know if this doesn't make sense.
