*full disclaimer I have 0 proof of this*

Anybody else thinking that with the leak of the Galaxy S 2.2 ROM and the later than anticipated release date that maybe our beloved Epic will come with 2.2 stock? It would be a good marketing point "First ever Android handset to come with 2.2 pre-loaded"

Yeah, I would hope the "delay" is that its coming with Froyo, but I doubt it. We're looking at September for Froyo, or even later.

That makes some sense and could explain why all the other galaxy phones released over a month ago and why this one hasn't. Honestly a September release for me means I dont have to a) argue and get my upgrade moved ahead a month or b) pay full price (depending on what that is determines if I wait til September or buy at release).

Unfortunately I think "Android 2.2" is Greek to about 95% of their target audience.

It seems the delay is likely due to testing since there were so many issues with the Moment's radio. It's frustrating, but I'd rather they take their time to make sure the hardware is ready for prime time.

Wishful thinking for all of us... but sadly no. The unit I tried didn't have 2.2, albeit, this was a few weeks ago. The person clearly said to me, we are ready to go with these, just in "final testing".

Couldn't agree more. Id rather wait a few weeks to get a phone in 100% working order then get a phone with monor issues that I need to find a workaround for. After seeing the flash setup on sprint.com I noticed that the spec sheet says 2.1 and to be perfectly honest that doesn't bother me either. There will be plenty of time to play with 2.2 and ginger when they come out.

Was gonna say that.

Anybody who works in Marketing trying to market a phone with "Android 2.2" or "Froyo" is going to lose his job very quickly.

I want the phone NOW- as long as it's not buggy- I'll take it. I'll wait for Froyo. Evo users need that patch that includes froyo- lots of bugs fixed. Epic needs to launch bug free but SOON or miss the boat and lose customers to Verizon. Froyo can come in Sept/Oct. They've already said Sept for overseas Galaxy X users.

Well if the Evo is getting Froyo starting this weekend and Sprint will be the 1st to launch Froyo...this might explain the delay of pricing and an official date. Maybe the Epic is launching with Froyo. The it would truly be Epic.

A delay would be this phone launching in the Fall. But since there is no release date, as long as it launches by summer's end, its on-time. I highly doubt it'll get froyo before release. No worries, I'm sure the'll be a dev team to bring either CM6 or Touchwiz 2.2 to the phone.

UK info. Doesn't mean it doesn't apply here but they have a "samsungusmobile" feed as well; assuming that tweet means the US is a stretch, imo.

I'm thinking that with Sprint making a push to be the first US carrier to offer Froyo through the EvO, I doubt the "End of September" time frame is that far off for the Epic 4G.

I understand your train of thought... just don't think anyone should put TOO much stock in that tho.

I am hoping the Samsung rep I met with was either not telling the truth (she didn't have a reason to, she let me use the damn device so...) or she wasn't informed about 2.2 shipping with the device (or later). That being said, it was her personal device, and she is in love with it (I could tell she was sincere because she knew the tech about the phone itself, knew what USB debugging was and all, hell she knew who I was and asked about RvU for the Epic).

I agree I don't see why she would lie about it but it's possible she just wasn't aware of it. Heck I work in a small IT department and there are things we're doing that half the people here aren't aware of. While I think it's a long shot I wouldn't be surprised if at the last minute the call was made to launch with 2.2. Though the advantage will be lost on 99% of consumers who think there are only 2 phones. Droid and iPhone.
