LCD connection broken. Change motherboard?

[AC Question]

I had some problems with the screen turning "pinkish". Taking the LCD cable off and on helped but last time the black plastic piece broke in half.

Depending which connector is broken: connector on mainboad, I guess this one is broken, the end of lcd cable is marked with Main, you have to change the mainboard. Connector on lcd is broken, you have to change the lcd assembly as touchscreen and lcd are glued together.

What piece is this? Is it just the clamp that holds the ribbon secured in the connector? If so, you might be able to just get the part from a phone/tablet repair shop.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any online shops off-hand that would sell just that flippy part. These connectors are used in laptops, phones, tablets, DVD players, car stereos, etc, etc, etc. If you go to a local electronics repair shop, they may have old parts laying around. Take your old part with you and see if they match it up for you. You might try calling Samsung (talk to a tech) and see if they can help you obtain the part... rather than sending the tablet in to them. I can't see replacing the entire motherboard over a piece of plastic.

Another thought... you could also buy a broken 10.1 on ebay and salvage the part from that.

It seems you have never done this kink of repair of connector on Samsung mainboard
1- Even you have exactly connector, it will break if you try to take out the plastic clamp
2- No manufacturer will sell part to consumer, they only do repair based on RMA.
3- Samsung don't fix mainboard as the cost is more expensive then just replace it.
4- Part of Samsung mainboard cannot find from other electronic devices, you have no clue to suggest of looking at local electronic repair shops .

It's true that I've never repaired a Samsung Motherboard, but I've done stereos, ipods, laptops and other devices. If the clamp works the same as all the rest of them, it is possible to replace it without breaking the clamp or connector. You mean to tell me you've never been able to do it yourself? This is not rocket science... as long as you take your time and be very careful.

Yes, manufactures won't sell the part, but a repair shop might be able to fix it without having to replace the entire motherboard. And to say it would cost Samsung more to repair than replace the board, well, that's just insightful of you... to Samsung motherboards are a dime a dozen! No clue? Don't make me laugh! How would you know there are no repair shops in the entire world that wouldn't have the part if they say, have replaced the motherboard on another tablet for a customer?

Read my post again and you'll see that all my suggestions were just suggestions. Things I would try or think about before spending money on a new motherboard. I'm a retired Electronics Engineer specializing in repairing electronic hardware. Don't insult me by telling me I have no clue. Stop pretending to be the only one on this board that knows anything.

Your option is buying a working tablet with broken LCD or the mainboard on Ebay. These parts only Samsung have it from their supplies from China, even if you know the part and the supplier, you cannot buy it as they sell in bulk of thousands, nobody sells and ships a part which costs only around a dime.

That statement doesn't tell you much if you consider a few unknown things...

1) The clips on this particular ebay tablet were taken off to be used by the seller on another tablet
2) The other tablet was being repaired by an "inexperienced tech" that broke the clips and so in order to repair it, the seller took the clips from the ebay tablet

Which could mean he fixed his original tablet... the one the inexperienced tech broke... with the clips from the ebay tablet. That's what it sounds like to me. But, it's all unknown isn't it!

There you go again with "no clue". While it might be that Samsung parts are proprietary, it's not impossible to find replacements parts... all you have to do is buy broken Samsung tablets on ebay. No? Is that a clueless answer? You wrote this, didn't you?

True it would help if you had special equipment for working SMD components but it's not undoable for everyone like you make it sound. Give people more credit for being capable if they have some imagination.

Yes it's ok as long as the mainboard is working. Ebay buyer protection will cover if the mainboard is not working.
I bought broken tablets all the time, if the mainboard is not working as description, you can return it regardless the seller not accepting return.
Many sellers do not know well the tablet or intentionally hide the broken parts, but you can have Ebay cover as long as it's not in description.

Unless you can post a specific link to a correct part; posting a link to unrelated part make your statement nonsense and help no one.

This is the LCD connector for this tablet. Surface mount connector is not a simple part to replace for most average users, not easy to find unless you know part number. Most parts found online are from obsolete models which Samsung doesn't make them any more.


Try this site to see if you can find LCD connectors for recent tablets, even old model like Tab 3 10.1
