A person in the sammy g3 forums says he can get led notifications on both ultras and minis at work. Can anyone duplicate this?

Considering the Ultra and Maxx use an AMOLED display and have no Notification LED I'd say thats false. The Mini has a notification LED as far as I know since its an LCD display and doesn't support Active Notifications.

I believe you're right but the poster made the claim so I'm giving an opportunity to respond.

...and the response is "what LED"? Unless there's a completely unused and hidden LED on these devices, which seems unlikely. Do you have a link to the thread in question?

Hey guys, let me confirm given I have seen about 150 different phones (most a mix of mini, ultra and maxx) as I am switching our company from AT&T to Verizon. I can 100% confirm it on the mini as I still have one in front of me, and the MAXX I can 100% confirm no led. Let me grab one of our Ultras and test it.

Apparently I am getting my devices mixed up, as you guys are correct and the Droid Mini is the ONLY one of the 3 with the notification light which i find weird as they all 3 have AMOLED displays, and all 3 use "Active display" which no doubt was intended as a replacement for the notification light.

The Maxx is essentially a thick Ultra with a larger battery, wireless charging, and larger storage chip. The screen end of things is identical between the two, so it's no surprise that both would not have it. As noted, the mini uses different screen technology, so they included an LED for notifications, as the active notifications could eat up a lot more battery life.

The mini is an lcd

Your correct, not sure why they would use Active Display as it was a tech designed for AMOLED screens.... but interesting.

I've read several responses to this. One response is that the Active Notification only turns on when the phone has an orientation change because the LED is used for the main notification. On the Ultra and Maxx is will pulsate. Another thing said to go along with it is SUPPOSEDLY the Mini lights up the whole screen (mostly black but you can see it) where as the Ultra and Maxx only light up the middle. Seems to be true from testing my Maxx but I'm not positive.

Umm, call me crazy but I have both the Mini and the Ultra. The Mini does does have an LED. The Ultra does not. But the Mini *does* do the breathing thing like the Ultra. The background is *nearly* black, but not entirely since it has to turn on the backlight which, of course, the Ultra doesn't have. It's weird, because when I use the Ultra (which is almost all the time) I keep expecting an LED to blink. The phones are so similar I find myself expecting them to work identically. Which they nearly do. But why the HECK doesn't this STUPID thing light the LED magenta on an incoming text when I tell it to???????? Well, duh. It's the Ultra, *****! Not the Mini!

There actually IS an led in the ultra. If you ever go below 5% battery you will see it. It COULD do all the notifications but Motorola, in their typical patronizing manner, disabled it for all other purposes.

I have noticed that my Ultra breathes much faster (shows the data more often) when there is a notification than when there's not. So if I have a text message, say, there is a shorter time between the pulses than when there is no notification and only the time to be shown. Because it does this I do not miss a notification led because I always notice the "pulse."

I'm an old BB guy. I love LEDs :) But the breathing notifier works pretty well, and takes you easily to the notifying app. So it's a usability improvement on the LED I guess.

The Active Display will turn on every 6 seconds and stay on for 2 seconds when you have a notification. I never did check how often it does without a notification but it turns on when I remove it from my pocket so I don't care.

I've heard this before and it doesn't work. I have the Shake for Camera though and that works.

I just now picked up my Ultra, gave it a quick flick, and it popped on the notifier. That's what I meant by waking up, and it's not the correct terminology. It's not quite as convenient as the LED, but it's definitely easier than finding the power button to wake it, then unlocking to see notifications!

I don't have to shake or flick my Ultra. I get the notification as soon as I nudge it or just pick it up. Have to nudge it about an inch before it comes on and just picking it up a few inches gets the notifier. Just reached over and picked it up now and there it was.
