Lens flare

Just got my Pixel 2 XL on Wednesday. Everything was good for the first 24 hours until I started snapping shots last night. I never really followed the Pixel launch, so I'm just hearing about last year's lens flare issue while doing research.

I haven't taken many pics yet, but here's one I took last night. You can see the stadium's name and parking lot lights reflected upside down near the middle of the shot.

And here's a quick audioless video from a concert I went to tonight:

Not too pleased, especially after reading in reviews that this was supposed to have been fixed.

Re: Lens Flare Returns

I don't think that's the type of flaring most people refer to when they talk about lens flare on Pixel devices? This is an example of lens flare on the OG Pixel:

Re: Lens Flare Returns

I've seen both types referenced. What would you call mine then because there are videos of the same issue?

Re: Lens Flare Returns

It's fixed on the 2 XL.

I don't see anything in your pic or video that is anything like what I have on my OG Pixel - I don't see any lens flare in yours. My Pixel 2 XL also has none of the lens flare issues from my OG Pixel. If I get a chance, I'll take some comparisons, but so far my Pixel 2 XL absolutely does NOT have the flare issue from the OG Pixel.

p.s. I was one of the most vocal users in the forums talking about the original OG Pixel flaring issue too here. (i.e. I am not one to defend the camera if there are issues. )

I don't have a bad HALO effect, but I can't take pictures or videos at night without artifacts on the screen from reflection against the glass. Call it what you want.

@e30ernest posted a perfect example of what I see on my OG Pixel occasionally. As you can see that is nothing like what you showed. You may not have perfect pics, but it is not the flaring issue.

That's not a defect, that's a byproduct of a mobile lens system. The light is reflecting within the lens, I believe, creating that artifact. It will happen whenever there's a singular bright source of light like that lamp or the sun. (if you took pictures of the last solar eclipse, your phone would have done the exact same thing) Mobile cameras aren't the best at handling bright sources of light like this.

I've never had this issue on my phones. Not sure how you can say it's not a defect.

Thank you all for providing no responses of any value. Can a mod please lock this? I won't be coming back.

Because it's not. It's physics. Small lenses plus too much pinpoint light equals that artifact.

Since you removed the image I can't be certain what you're referring to. But just going by your description, I've had that happen on P&S cameras before. But if you feel it's a real problem, contact Google. It's their device, they're the ones who owe you an explanation, not anyone here. You asked for opinions, they gave theirs, if you don't like them there isn't much anyone here can do. And just because you weren't helped in this instance, it doesn't mean the people here can't help you down the road. Of course if you get belligerent they may not want to help you. Just my $.02.
