I don't want this to be about how many hours the phone can be on standby, but more about what people are doing via apps to save battery life, or what you guys are turning off to save battery. What are some things that you have seen big improvements on by disabling?

Since ice cream sandwich you don't need to turn off gps, system will only turn it on when an app needs it, and since jelly bean you don't need to turn off wifi, so outside of screen brightness, not syncing anything you don't need and turning off instant upload for pics the os is pretty good about saving battery for you

personally i turn all background data off so no only does it close apps in the background it also saves on data usage

I was wondering about location services. It is very "tweakable" in iOS but I haven't had much luck finding what I want by surfing the OS. I want GPS on for when I want it, but I don't want it to constantly calculate my ETA to various places. I notice it all the time in the notification drop down, but I can't figure out how to turn it off. Also, for instant upload, is that an individual app thing? Is juice defender even doing anything for me, or is it another app using my battery in the background with little benefit?

Juice Defender was made many years ago for older phones and in my opinion it has no use or purpose on a Jelly Bean phone. I would bet that you will get better battery life if you delete it.

The eta you mention is part of google now, and yes instant upload is in the google plus app settings, if enabled it will upload all pics you take so you have a backup

in google now you may be able to disable the card for travel times thus getting rid of your eta notification.....I find it handy because it tells me when to leave for events in my calendar if you put an address on the event
