LG G2 assigning different notification tones

Hello,
I just switched from VZW to T-Mo. I had a N5 but had to return it for a G2 because the N5 doesn't do WiFi calling. I am not trying to figure out how to assign different audio sounds for different people's text messages and for different app notifications. I used to have a Galaxy nexus and it was a simple setting but on the G2, I can not for the life of me figure out how to do it. Some apps allow me to change their notifications inside their own settings, but others I can not silence or change the sounds without removing notifications all together (some I want the notification without the sound and others I would like to assign different sounds). I also would like to assign different sounds to different different peoples text messages.
I already own Lightflow but it does not work on separate contacts. I also would like to keep the stock (well, LG stock) messaging system, it has a nice bubble feature where I can reply to texts without leaving other apps (Clash of Clans is annoying to get in and out of).

Also is their a setting somewhere to stop the screen from turning on when text messages are received?

Any help is appreciated, thank you.

I'm thinking a combination of both. Disable text messaging notifications altogether on Light Flow (let it handle all other notifications EXCEPT text messages) and then use the native LG messaging app for text messages. You should be able to get the best of both worlds unless I did not read your post closely enough.

I couldn't get Calendar Notifications working properly for me with Light Flow (all other apps work fine), so I disabled calendar reminders in Light Flow and use the native calendar notifications.

Klotar : I had the same problem with the calendar and just disabled in LF as well. The thing I wanted was to be able to assign different sounds to different apps and different people, the settings only allow one "Notification" sound for everything on the phone. I just wasn't sure if there was a way to do that.

20degrees : The ringtones are fine, it is the text notifications that I wanted to have different sounds for if possible.

Thank you both for your replies though.

I think I was under the impression that you could set custom notification sounds for text messages 'by contact', but either I dreamt that or got mixed up with the custom ringtones by contact.

Edit: Aha, I wasn't dreaming; however, this feature is only on certain G2 models. Apparently the ATT model (D-800) has it but most others don't. Edit2: more specifically, not Verizon (VS980).

apparently neither does T-Mo either, but thank you for the heads up lol. VZW gets Qi charging and ATT gets custom notification assignments. No exclusives for little pink though, very sad.

I think the closest we can get you to your goal is a combination of Light Flow, possibly a Profile Scheduler, and a 3rd party SMS application. There are several SMS applications out there that support individual notifications, Textra is the one I use and prefer, it is free, supports individual contact notification sounds, individual contact LED colours, individual notification icon colours (up in the notification bar), custom bubble chat colours and repeat notifications.

If your primary modes of communication are SMS and calls, this may be enough (with emails, I think you can do some customization by account but not by individual).

Anyways, give Textra a try. Just disable stock notifications on the Message application first, disable Light Flow for SMS applications and try out the Textra notifications. To set up custom stuff for a SMS contract, long press their name, and click the Settings icon (3 squares) on the top right and take it from there.

Woops, I forgot your criteria to keep the stock messaging system (for the windowed/popup feature), got carried away with the notifications aspect.

Sorry for the necro, but I spent a lot of time searching for something like this to use on stock Android, so I figured it would be nice to let any future searchers know. You can use an app like Contact Alert (free) or Custom SMS Tones (paid) to set a custom notification per contact. The apps run alongside your messenger app, so you can still use the stock app if you want. You will only have to disable sounds in your messenger app to prevent two sounds being played at once.

I know this thread is over 2 years old, but there is a very simple solution to this problem. Whatever you want the custom notification sound to be must be saved to the following folder Internal storage/media/audio/notifications

I'd been experiencing this problem for 2 years and just found the solution this morning.
