Lg G3 is it still worth getting?

Hello folks, please excuse and dumb or asked before questions but..

I am due to upgrade my phone on Vodafone in June. My contract originally was with a Galaxy S5 but I dropped it within a month of getting it and had no insurance... Ever since I have been using a MotoG.

On the same terms as I am currently on, I could have another S5 but it will cost me more, however I do fancy a change, I have had a succession of Samsung phones so a change is as good as a rest... If I go for an LG G3 it will cost me less money per month that I am already paying, which is a good thing right?

So what am I chewing my gums about? I guess its just trying to get some advice on the G3, and LG in general before I make my decision as the LG brand will be new to me. I don't fancy a G4, too new and more money than I am prepared to pay.

So I would be interested in hearing how you have gotten along with LG brand and the G3 in particular.

Cheers.

Jim

I'm a current LG G3 owner and I've been very pleased with the device. Sure every device has its quirks but overall in general I think LG really did a good job. I've had Samsung & HTC and have been very happy with going outside the " big two " and taking my chances with LG.

Hardware quality has been great, I'm in construction and my device goes through a rough ride each day. It gets a little wet on occasion, tossed around, subjected to dust and dirt and it works fine.. No screen protector, just a SEIDO hard case on it.

I love LG's simple UI, its not all bloated up like Touchwiz and a bit simpler than Sense on HTC.

If your not a fan of the G4, then I'd give the G3 a series consideration. Its still got some good life left in it and a nice change from the big two names.

It's a great device. Certainly an upgrade to the moto g. If you can get the G3, which is a much faster phone, larger and higher resolution screen etc. for LESS money I'd say go for it. Not that the moto g is a bad phone, it's just in another class.

You might also want to check out the LG G2. It has specs almost as good as the G3 and I think they are discontinued now so you could probably get 1 cheap

Thanks for the advice people.
I am limited to what Vodafone offers me with a new contract, Currently I am on £33 per month and the allowances suit me fine, this was for the S5 which I had for a month before it became a pile of broken plastic. The new contract will be £29 per month for the LG G3 for the same deal as I have now, I know its only a few quid saving but better in my pocket than theirs, might even go towards insurance.

Speaking of insurance, does anyone have any experience of 3rd party insurers of mobile phones?

Jim

I'd skip any kind of 3rd party insurance. If you must, go for a protection plan offered by your carrier. Otherwise, I'd just invest in a decent case and screen protector. Planing on picking up a Tech21 case for my G3. Will probably add quite a bit of bulk, but dropping my Nokia down a set of stairs has justified my choice of sticking with that company.

Buy the G3 without reservation! I recently rooted mine and with a few select root apps have my device feeling like new! I have owned the G3 since last August and have had no issues at all, even with the Lollipop upgrade.

The G3 is a solid phone. I had a G2 the year before and that was also a great phone.
LG has been making quality phones. My first Android was an Nexus 4 and loved it.
I'd pick a G3 over a S5 anyday.

Thank you all for the advice, I think I have pretty much decided now, the power and volume buttons being on the back of the phone may take a little getting used to but I don't mind that. Once i get the phone I may have more questions.

Thanks for the help.

Ditto to everything he said. ^^^^

I am also due for an upgrade in a couple of weeks with Verizon. Currently, I own the Droid RAZR M and after it was upgraded to KitKat it has had crap battery life.

I have been researching the current phones on Verizon and I really don't want to pay a lot for phone. Right now, Best Buy has the LG G3 for just a $1. The other phone I am checking out is the Sony Xperia Z3v.

I guess my only concerns with the LG G3 is reading all the comments about battery life and WiFi after switching to Lollipop. Maybe some current LG G3 owners can elaborate... Is it as bad as folks are making it out to be?

The G3 is one of the best bang for the buck flagships right now.

I agree - just bought two of them outright at our local BB for a great price and we are using them with our AT&T GoPhone Plan. Great product. The prices will keep coming down too making them an even better buy :)

Haven't noticed any WIFI issue with mine using AT&T in South FLA. Stock battery no issue... I make it through day ok and can usually get over 3 hour screen time. screen time varies on what your doing. texting, video, music, navigation with GPS so I think anything over 3 is solid. I think if you were comparing to the M8 or S5 or S6 then can guess it doesn't do any worse than any of those. I'm playing with a $19 45000mah and think I can say if the factory battery was iffy for some to make it a whole day then the $19 one will give you a solid day.

Absolutely. I was looking forward to the G4 but the more I see it the more I think I'll keep my G3 and see what the next round will offer. My G3 on AT&T with Lollipop is awesome. Fast, fluid, and Beautiful. No battery issues or any other kind.

If anyone is still thinking of getting the G3 and you live in NJ,Best Buy is having a special if you take the Next or Edge or Sprint's plan you get a $200. Best Buy gift card. So you wind up paying about $200 total for a brand new G3. Pretty good deal

Free $100–$200 Best Buy Gift Card

when you buy the LG G3 for $1 with 2-year agreement or $0 down for well-qualified buyers with monthly installment plan.

$100 gift card with 2-year agreement for Verizon Wireless
$150 gift card with 2-year agreement for AT&T
$200 gift card with 2-year agreement for Sprint
$200 gift card with monthly installment plan for Verizon Edge, AT&T Next or Sprint Easy Pay*

Thanks for the advice guys, it looks like this is the phone I will get next. I have been looking at wireless chargers etc I am not a fan of full cases but I may look into a grippy partial case and a screen protector.

Asus Zenfone 2 will be available for $299.00... That a crazy price for such a good phone, although camera is a little weak.

Yesterday I got an LG G3 as a work phone, sicne I have an S6 as my personal i figured i'd pass on an S5 and go with another model I've always had an interest in. Man you know what, the G3 is awesome even for now. Right beside my S6, the G3 looks fantastic and I can see where the G4 is going to be a nice competitor for the S6. The color is a little washed out, doesnt compare to S6, but otherwise overall its fantastic phone.
