Got my G3 today and i love it. This is my first android, so i never had to concern myself with permissions when downloading apps. I downloaded the Twitter app from the Google Play Store and saw that some of the permissions were a little alarming. Receiving Texts, access to reading, editing and deleting SD Card info, and accessing my contacts. The one that really worries me is the receiving texts one, as i've read some bad scams with this. Do these permissions sound right to you guys for a social media app?

Yup very normal, have a look at fb that is extreme...

Its up to you whether or not your happy with said permissions...

You can root and install app opps starter which enables you the user to turn off said permissions.

If you are not rooted then use App Ops Starter, it does NOT need root.
If you get rooted then use the xposed app ops module.
I like the xposed module because it places a section for it in the settings menu and on every app info page.
This is a built in feature in android just hidden now but it works perfect.

Re: Scared of App Permissions

I honestly wouldn't worry to much about the app permissions of commonly used apps like Twitter, Facebook, etc. They look extreme, but really, nobody ever experiences anything negative with regards to the permissions. There are millions and millions of people using these apps without issue. People always complain about the amount of permissions various apps require, but it almost never results in any kind of problem. I wouldn't fuss to much over it if I was you.

Re: Scared of App Permissions

The problem is without you knowing they send ads or spam to everyone on your contacts list.
This is a huge privacy concern and everyone should use App Ops to defend themselves and their friends.
What they do is connect the dots to everyone you know and everyone they know and then they have a map.
Don't just ignore the problem but correct it. Just as easy as you can ignore it, you can defend it.
