Greetings !

I just got back from a wedding. I had HDR activated on my camera. Everything else was set to auto. The indoor pictures are terrible. Faces are completely digitized (like low megapixel pictures were back in the day). Totally washed out. I turned HDR off in hopes my next event will be better. Any suggestions?

HDR photography is not typically used for low light/indoor photography. Works best in well light scenes were you are trying to gain low light details such as in shadows.

HDR is meant for high contrast situations when you do not need a fast shot. Eg landscapes or interior non people shots.

Out of habit from my G3 days when I realized auto HDR slowed down the response of the camera I tend to keep HDR off until I decide I need it.

Next time try setting everything to auto but HDR off for quick point and shoot shots .

Ok. Thanks. I didn't know that HDR was not designed for that use. I thought HDR was just a thing that took multiple pictures and combined the best to make the best. Easy enough to turn it off (and on).

I leave it in auto HDR (instead of "on") mode and it works quite well.

Alternatively, I'll go into manual mode and I may or may not actually tweak any settings; it's darned close to auto mode if you don't tweak things like focus, and you don't have to worry about Auto HDR messing with things.
