I just picked up a G6 to replace an IPhone 6 Plus that I gave to a family member whose phone took a swim in the ocean.

So far, I like it alot.

Can I set the tone for incoming SMS messages? I got the ringtone set, and even figured out how to put my own ringtones on the phone. But changing the incoming SMS tone has eluded me at this point.

Sorry for the NOOB question.

Thanks.

Mike.

In settings, go to Sound. Scroll down to the advanced area and click Notification Sound (in android the sms ringtone is called a notification). Under this you have the set of sounds that is in the notifications folder - generally the stock sounds. If you have another sound in mind that isn't on this list, click the plus (+) sign in the upper right corner. There's a popup where you choose where you want to choose your new sound from, and then you pick your sound and you're done.

Hope this helps.

It helps but doesn't this change ALL notifications? I just wanted the notification for SMS messages to change. If it's not possible, it's not possible.

I DO appreciate your reply. Thank you!

Mike.

not sure if you can change notification sound specifically for messages. try to open the settings within messages. if not then a 3rd party app might be the way to go. Textra has my vote as it's always worked as advertised.

What messaging app are you using? Usually the SMS notification sound is set in the messaging app itself. Check the settings in the app.

I've been away from Android for a very long time. I did not know, honestly, that I could change my default texting app. I have no changed it to Textra and get exactly what I want.

Thanks all.

Noob out.
