LG G6 to get Oreo 8.1 + Enterprise Recommendation

its definitely good news, but given how long its taken them to get 8.0 out, im not going to hold my breath.

I'm still seriously contemplating paying this off and getting a Pixel 2 or should I just wait for Pixel 3?

This is good news, 8.1 is a better version of Oreo. Its late but will make the phone even more current software wise.

I'm with you on this. We could see a 8.1 update soon, which has me curious about how the G6 will be moving forward.

Occasionally, I'll get freezes on the home screen where I can't open anything for a few seconds. It's a minor annoyance.

$649 for the 64GB pixel 2 is what I'm looking at. I am afraid that holding out for the P3 comes with a increase in price. Im guessing that it will start at $725 for 64GB and $799 for 128GB.

I also want to jump around on prepaid services offered by carriers and project fi to see how much can be saved.

I've tested a P2 for about 2 weeks and it's definitely a device that I could use for 18+ months.

I'm on Verizon so more than likely I'd get the Pixel 2 128 gb. It is $100 off now. Plus if I sell my G6 for around $200 it's a pretty good deal. I think you're right about the Pixel 3's price increase. My battery life on the G6 is not good. Also it is not smooth at all. I bought this phone for the camera and apart from the manual mode, it's pretty disappointing.

As cool as this sounds, the question I have is this: How viable will the G6 still be given how long it's taking to even get 8.0. It's now more than a year old. It's possible that by the time it gets 8.1 and the Enterprise certification, it'll be 2 years old and people have moved on to other devices.

Yep, I see this as a marketing move and nothing else. It's about the brand, not the device or "enterprise" users. LG could not afford to be the brand not participating, and whether they deliver specifically on the G6 doesn't matter. By the time it would get dropped for non-compliance (if it happens) the next model would be out.

Also, despite what the linked article says, the Enterprise program does not at all imply the G6 will get 8.1. The requirements are Android 7.0+ with "one letter upgrade" from the current shipping release, plus 90-day security updates. This means 8.0 qualifies. And I don't see any timeframe requirement for that upgrade.

Furthermore, it is not even a guarantee that the carrier-branded models will get the upgrades/patches. That is up to the carriers.

So, while it sounds good, I don't think it really means anything in real terms.
