I bought 1st Nexus 4 on Sep, 2012 and use for awhile. But the 1st phone have problem with camera "not responding" so often. I contacted Google Play to get the replacement on June 2013. The 2nd phone didn't have camera issue anymore, but it has the screen issue when I compared them side by side.

The screen show grid lines and reflected bright dots both when screen on or off. Easy to see under the sun or direct light. I email Google and sent them pictures, then they acknowlege the issue and sent me another phone. This 3rd phone also have the same screen issue. So I complainted again and after someone said, no that's the way it is, then I said why somebody said it's the issue, someone says it's not? Then, they agreed to sent another phone to me. The 4th phone have the same screen issue.

I reported that the 4th phone have the same issue, then at first, someone reply to my email and said that they in process of refund since I have 3 phone with the same issue. But then someone else replied and asked me to send pictures again on the 4th phone. I told them I don't want to spend time to take pictures again. They can see pictures I sent already.

"The grid pattern is supposed to be there since that is simply the digitizer to register touches on the phone", they said, but the glass should be dark enough so we should not see them, as I didn't see them on the 1st phone.

I put all the pictures together here:

Anyone see the same things? Contacted Google? How did they repond to your case? Let share with us on the issue.

Thank you.

By the way, all the new phones have good camera, the call volume is louder, and didn't get as hot as the 1st phone I had.

I see the dots on mine but only when under direct sunlight or very bright overhead lights. I don't know if the photos are exaggerating the effect or not but your screen seems to show them more than mine.

I have not, however, seen the blocky grid pattern on mine yet. If it matters, I am using a Spigen Oleophobic screen protector.

That's your digitizer. That's how your touch screen works

Have you ever seen this illusion? Most people will either see two faces nose-to-nose or a candlestick. The thing is, once someone points out the opposite of whatever you saw originally, it is nearly impossible to ignore it - every time you see the image again you will instantly see that which you did not see until it was pointed out to you.

The same thing is happening with your N4's screen: now that you know the dots/lines exist, you find them impossible to ignore. But, as others have said, they are completely normal and are present on all screens of this type.

I just bought my first Nexus 4 and have this issue too. The dots don't bother me as much as the grid pattern. It makes the screen look heavily pixelated and extremely poor quality. How did you contact Google to get a replacement? I couldn't find an email address and the wait time for their customer service hotline was about an hour.

It is NOT normal, and it's not acceptable, I just bought my second N4 and got here because I thought it was a scam. That I had bought some screen replaced equipment. My first N4 did not have this, the screen was perfectly plain, the only thing you could see were small little dots. The thing in your pictures is the same thing I see in my screen right now, I'm still deciding if I'm going to be annoyed about it, and send it back, or not.

I can see it very clearly on my N4 in bright light, but otherwise it's invisible. Always been that way.
