I just recently visited a few stores, curious to see how the optimus g stacks up against the one and gs4. Here are a few of my impressions...

1. Speed difference between the phones is negligible. One thing to remember is that the one and gs4 are both equipped with 1080p screens. Despite their higher clock rates the G is just as snappy. The One was equally as blistering as the G with jellybean. The gs4 oddly showed some stuttering and slow down...I've heard this issue mentioned elsewhere.

2. Cameras for both devices are good. I'd would say the one and gs4 have a slight edge here. The G holds it's own though with its 13mp.

3. Interestingly I didn't find the G's display to be overmatched. Displays on all 3 devices are good but I really couldn't tell a whole lot of difference between them. The s-lcd3 screen in the one wasn't a huge improvement over the one x /evo lte. They do look slightly better than that of the G but you'd have to see them all side by side to notice. At 5 inches, the difference between the 720 and 1080p screens isn't like with 47 or 60in tv's. Difference is marginal at best...

Just some initial impressions. After seeing the new juggernauts I wasn't super impressed. I feel like the G holds it's own and I don't feel like I need to run and get either phone. I feel the G is still a great phone. I'm guessing the phones that come later in the year will be more impressive as these new ones are technically using last year's tech. Feel free to disagree though. Just my opinions!

I agree with you on all of that. The screens with 1080 compared to 720 are hard to tell the difference. I have the att optimus g and its my favorite over the note 2, gs3 and htc one x plus. I had toyed with the gs4 and the one and wasnt impressed by anything other than the screen capacity. My phone blows the others out of the water with visual ui speeds and from what i hear battery life too. i can get 15+ hours on half a battery on wifi and 4g with a good amount of use. The newer phones are nice cause they are newer but the lg holds it own and for a cheaper price too. But its all about what catches your eye.

Agreed. I did feel the UI speed of the G was much better than the two other phones. I also agree with the battery life of the G being quite good. It lasts longer than my friends' GS3 and my wife's evo lte fairly comfortably.

I have the gs3, note 2, htc one x plus, and the lg. I prefer the lg over all of them. I like the ui better. I know with the gs4 it didnt change much from the gs3 and the one was a drastic change but blink feed is a turn off for me and not having a menu button or capable button. I normally like the sense ui. Are you going to one or the other at all?

Definitely not. I'll be sticking with my G. After seeing what samsung and htc had to offer, I feel like the G2 later this year would be more advanced and interesting. Particularly if it sports the snapdragon 800 or a custom lg processor like the rumors are saying.

Agree with the OP. Love my AT&T Optimus G, tried the S4 at the store, it was nice but didnt blow me away. Just sold a Note 2 and went back to my optimus, the note 2 was a great phone, too big for me, and the G's screen was better then note 2.

Yes I agree. Im waiting to get a new case for my optimus. Byt im going to be selling my note 2 cause the WiFi sucks on it.

I just started looking at the new Optimus G Pro now that it has been announced and will be in stores next Friday. Now I have to weigh the Optimus G Pro vs SGS4 vs HTC One and that's not easy. They all roll 1080p displays, vary on internal memory and/or expandable memory but have the same processor and pretty close processor speeds.

Big issue I have is with LG updates, I have no experience with them and with the Optimus G Pro rolling out with 4.1.2 which makes no sense to me other than it was in S. Korea first and that is what it came with there it should have come with 4.2.2.

My question to other Optimus G users is how are you screens in outdoor use, does the IPS displays have issues in direct sunlight, not that I use mine outdoors a ton but I need to use it outside at times, right.

No outdoor visibility issues whats so ever. I remember my lg had an update a month or so after I got it when it came out. I know lg has been trying to keep up with updates but I dont really understand why having the latest update is a big deal or not. I thought the new software was for newer hardware compatibility.

Mine gets a little glare from my screen protector, but other than that its pretty usable outdoors.

i too wonder why everyone wants the newer versions. from what i can tell, both 4.1 and 4.2 are pretty similar except for the lockscreen widgets. i just wish that q slide would work with more apps. but then again thats not lg's fault.

Have you used the Optimus G? I think a lot of people are uninformed about this phone. It can be hard to find outside of carrier stores. In terms of speed and screen quality it's more comparable to this year's phones. Keep in mind that it's running the snapdragon quad processor. It's much faster than the dual core in the s3 and one x. Also note that uses a lower clocked version of the exact same processor that's in the one and gs4. It's definitely comparable. People forget that this phone is a nexus 4 with lg's UI instead of stock, better storage options, and lte.

Yes also its uses the same gpu as the htc one, not sure of the gs4. The zero gap screen is very sensitive and the the quad core control save a good amount of battery life. I do believe this was a very inderated and under advertised phone. Granted in using the gs3 now, but im waiting to get a case for mine. Thats also a set back for att customers. There are no good cases for the phone.

Agreed. A very good phone and definitely comparable to the new heavyweights. The reason for all the comparos between the nexus 4 and the one/gs4 and no such comparos with this phone escapes me...this is essentially the same phone...
