LG Optimus Q Owner

HI,,, I am new to the android market and don't have a clue what I am doing. I have the LG Optimus Q and I am trying to find a call blocker application that will work with it... I have seen a review for one that says it is the only app they found to work with this particular phone but it needs root access. I have no clue where or how to get root access. Also I don't know how to back up the phone if something goes wrong in the process... Is there a book for dummies?
