LG optimus Q

I recently purchased an LG optimus Q it looks like a really good phone but the problem i have is very poor sprint coverage in the area, i see there is a Roam widget on the marketplace that is 100 percent guarunteed to work on the optimus s but their not too sure about anything else, i hate to see my money go to waste on a really nice phone, so does anyone have any suggestions at all on how to maximize my signal, i live in a att and verizon area i have spotty coverage and what i mean is at my house i'll have 2-4 bars and i can go to my buddies house who lives 2 miles away and have absolutley no signal at all. is there anything at all i can do, im pretty much a noob so it'll take some really good explaining, lol thanks alot.

I'm in the same boat here... Verizon and art pretty much own the air here and I have never seen my v get more than three bars... this is what I did and you can try at your own descression... first you need to root your phone... there are tons of videos on YouTube and tons of info here in the foreums to help you... next, download flashgui.API and install... flash a custom recovery of your choice... ( you'll need to already have the zip files you choose in the root of your sdcard)... then flash a custom rom... I recommend Jerry's backside cm7.2 w/bobzhome@ubuntu3.2 kernel... once that's all done you can simply go into settings- wireless and network settings- mobile network settings- from there you can enable roaming and preferred networks... this is bow I went from two to three bars of reception... you can also do a ton of other performance tweeks and customizations with custom roms... just please watch the videos and do a little research to make sure you have a grasp of how to do things... its not as hard as it sounds... seriously... hope this helps...

By the way I don't use contracts and have unlimited everything for 55/months... so I have no roaming charges... or data overages... or overminutes charges... just an fyi... make sure you have an unlimited plan or you may be charged roaming fees...

And it would be because he's trying to get you to flash a rom and kernel that are incompatible with your phone onto your device... don't do that.

I don't know of anything to help you OP outside of going to your menu (bottom left key on the physical buttons on your phone). Click settings. From settings go to about phone. In about phone find the update prl option within the Settings Update selection of that menu. Click that and let it run... that MAY help. But it won't brick your phone. To be honest your poor service probably cannot be fixed... that is a sprint issue. See if you cant find the closest tower to your house or places you travel. Unfortunately you cant really fix sprints service from your phone :-\ .
