I'm sorry if this is redundant or if it's posted easily somewhere else please let me know. I've been looking around the site and I see so many different posts about what to do and what not to do and some are really old and others are newer but aren't very detailed.

I'm new to this, in fact I just rooted, installed custom recovery and reborn a couple of weeks ago using a very detailed step-by-step guide on how to do so using gingerbreak.

With gingerbread available now for my phone, I'd like to get the update, then begin using the new/improved themes/roms for the gingerbread update, but in order to do that, I need to know SPECIFICALLY the steps I need to take to make this happen without bricking my phone, and without assuming I am a computer programmer with 4 years of college classes under my belt.

If someone would be so kind as to point me in the right direction, or post a step-by-step guide here for me, I'm sure I'm not the only one that would benefit from this. I appreciate any and all help offered.

Thanks!

Quick and simple.
Side note though: just because it's new does not always mean better. If you like reborn you will notice a difference when you update to ZVH. I would suggest read the forums and see what people are saying about ZVH and see if its the right choice for you. A lot of people reverted back to ZVD, and that is alittle harder.

Always happy to help, hit that thanks button if I did

I appreciate the replies. I'll take a closer look tonight. In the meantime, can anyone that has upgraded to ZVH and then reverted back to ZVD give me some things they didn't like about the upgrade? I'd been waiting and waiting for Gingerbread, and the whole reason I switched to reborn was because I was tired of waiting and wanted something new/better.

Also, as a newbie, does anyone have suggestions on where I can go/what I can read to become more knowledgable on the subject of rooting/hacking so I don't feel like such an idiot when I can't figure something out? I'm planning on sticking with Android devices and would like to get a better understanding of the process as a whole.

You guys rock. Thanks again.

The new Gingerbread may seem flaky the first day or so but then seems to get back to normal and works just fine. Using ADW EX, the screens are smooth and no lag. gROM 1.1 is snappy and clean. I have 90MB free app space withmost of the apps I had before. The theme support is there and growing. The only thing missing right now is overlocking and battery optimization. Those will be coming soon I hope.

SetCPU will work, but you can't overclock currently because of the kernel.

I think you have to wait for a modified kernel that allows overclocking.

I was wanting to upgrade to ZVH myself, but the success rate seems about 50%

Some work well, others have had their cell phone reception turn really bad with the ZVH radio.

I just went ahead and upgrade to Kraven's CM7 build.

Overclocking works, any features I use work.

Any outstanding issues don't affect my usage.

Only thing I miss is the Visual Voicemail, but that doesn't work in Gingerbread anyway.

Definitely do more reading before the upgrade to ZVH

Hey Stone,
Im a n00b too. Learning a bit at a time. Not many have patience with newbies, so dont get frustrated if yyou run into some computer whiz ahole. Im learning bit by bit and it's really becoming interesting. In fact, I cant stop screwing with my phone LOL Just look for the non sarcastic ppl in here that LIKE to help instead of ridicule, and you'll get by just fine. I am. Just a word of encouragement!

My impression is that Visual Voicemail doesn't work in CM7 but it seems to be working in gROM and stock Gingerbread. Correct me if I'm wrong because I'm counting on that before upgrading.

So I'm kind of torn on if I should update or not. I'd like to find a comprehensive listing of the features of the update, as well as any issues/complications. I wish I had more time for researching these things!

This worked like a charm. I decided to go ahead and update, and now I'm going to install the gRom and some new themes. Looks like a nice clean rom, and I'm excited to give it a shot. Love this site.
