LG Rebel 4: Clock app... alarm cannot be dismissed with volume keys

The stock Clock app's alarm function has a feature that allows you to dismiss alarms using the volume keys. When I set this, there is a message "This behavior is unavailable when using puzzle lock".

But even if i have puzzle lock turned off for a given alarm, the volume keys do not dismiss the alarm. I have tried rebooting.
