Well maybe now I can stop having to get a new phone as often as I do. Thankful for this second year promise.

When you consider the fact that the changes made from year to year have been pretty minimal, I agree with LG's decision. I'm so happy with my V30, I may keep it for a full 2 years. I'm loving that dac. Now I don't have to carry around a separate DAP to enjoy my high resolution music files.

Well, I do think this decision is just the beginning of the end. To sell phones, you have to be present on the market and you have to enable customers to buy your stuff.
Not offering phones does not sell more phones. While it may cut RnD and production costs, it also reduces the salary and also reduces the brand awareness of the potential customer.

It is sad. LG produces good phones. I was a fan of the Nexus 5. My sister loved her Nexus 5X and switched to the G6 now (my mother too). A friend of mine had all the G phones.
Problem is not the product. Problem is their marketing.

Take our beloved V30 for and example. Showing off the phone to customers in September was a good move. Being on par with Samsungs S8 / Note 8 at that time seemed to make the V30 a real contender.

Only ...

You couldn't buy it.
Woot?

LG: "Yes, dear customer. We (LG) have a great phone but aren't in the least able to sell it to you. You have to wait."

Meanwhile at Samsung: "here, buy our stuff".

Months later at LG: "Dear customer. Now we can sell you the phone. And it only costs as much as Samsungs S8 cost months ago... Customer? CUSTOMER?"
At the same time at Samsung: "here customer, if you haven't already bought our stuff, buy it much cheaper now"

I mean, you don't need to be a genius to understand, what's running wrong here. And I really don't see, how selling no phones at all in the future will increase sales. But hey, the bosses at LG are much better payed than me and should be knowing what they are doing, even though their decisions sometimes look, as if the janitor has been made boss there.
Because it would be on the same level to, say, clean a mall only every other year to save cleaning agents...
