LG V20 and Removable Batteries

Just wanted to chime in : Indian here. The V20 costs much less than my monthly pay (more than half though). Like most of you here, I'm not ok with upgrading every 2 years.

When my GNex died, the V20 wasn't out yet, so I bought an Asus Zenfone 2 Selfie (ZD551KL) with 3GB RAM and 16 GB storage for the following reasons (from an earlier post):
  • Removable battery pack
  • Micro SD card slot
  • >300ppi screen
  • Official support to unlock bootloader
  • Official external battery charger

And that's ALL I wanted apart from it being approximately modern... Believe it or not, the Zenfone Selfie was the ONLY phone that fit these fairly reasonable criteria. It cost about ₹13000 or $200 because I didn't want to shell out more than twice that amount for the G3, the next cheapest that fulfilled the reqs. To be sure, almost everyone around me has a phone with a better processor and perhaps bigger battery which costed them lesser, but I'd rather pay for stuff lasting longer.

And for the price of an external battery charger, the plus point is complete freedom of my phone from charging cords! I pretty much never plug in the phone.

One more point: power-bank-advocates say that they can use the power bank for ALL micro-USB devices, while the spare battery only serves one device. That is in fact not true : one can draw power from the battery too, using a charging case like Better Re/. Apparently the LG G5's battery cradle also allows using it as a power bank.

All that's left is to design phones with dual batteries like the Gionee Marathon M5... I think I remember someone saying they were hot swappable, but can't recall where. I wouldn't even mind a 3000mAh phone with 2x 1500mAh batteries, and an external charger that can charge at least two at a time. Then we wouldn't need to reboot the phone, and with that there is absolutely NO reason for preferring locked-in batteries.

Sadly, I am not seeing that happen.

People are lazy. It literally takes 10 seconds to switch the battery. Charging pads are the future now, although they take over an hour to fully charge, turning off the device to swap batteries don't sound too bad afterwards. V20 is the last best phone to have removable batteries... apparently an update to the Note 4 killed it off, folks are upset because the phone could've easily last another year or more.

I use a Perfine extended battery. It's 6400 mAh and lasts up to 2 days for me, depending on usage. It fast charges, and I'm ready to go again in about an hour. It's now on Amazon, and comes with a nice TPU case, for $23.99. I've been using one for almost a year and it works just fine. The main reason I didn't (and will not) update to the V30 is because of the sealed standard battery. Plus, my V20 works just fine. Whenever the system is updated, I'll be totally happy.

In your opinion they released an update to do it. You don't have evidence so please don't say it as a fact. :).

Admin Note: Seriously, stop spreading misinformation in the forums. If you want to make your own website and blog all day long about your conspiracy theories, feel free. This is not the place for that. This has already been addressed with you in both the LG and Samsung forums, yet we still keep seeing it. That's a problem and that problem is going to stop.

Okay but you can't ignore the fact everyone is having problems after update. Yeah there's no real proof but people are having issues.

I never did ignore it. Where did I?

I simply said you think it was intentional.. I never said some aren't having issues.

Ok, so when you can prove that Samsung is intentionally sabotaging devices, feel free to post a link to that evidence. As it stands right now, I can prove that they are not doing so. And we've had this discussion multiple times, you know that what you're saying is false and that intentionally spreading misinformation in the forums is not welcome.

There is no proof, no one will admit anything. Just my theory, some manufactures make their hardware last only for a certain period of time. The printer industry, including HP and Samsung brands, are guilty of this and have gotten backlash in the community and have gotten lawsuits. My theory is the same thing is happening on smartphones. Doesn't make sense to me, I have a 20 year old video game console and it runs perfectly fine, phones should last this long as well. My Samsung TV after 2 years decided to die on me, not exactly sure why, maybe cheap materials designed to last 2 years while tube TVs I still see working till this day. Again, my theory, no proof.
